Devils sweep Rangers; Senators advance
Patrik Elias jump-started the streaking New Jersey Devils in the playoff opener and then used another flourish to sweep away the New York Rangers.
Elias scored two goals and assisted on Scott Gomez’s power-play goal early in the second period – that wiped out the Rangers’ only lead of the series – giving the Devils a 4-2 win Saturday in New York and ending the first-round matchup in four straight games.
Jaromir Jagr left the ice 53 seconds into the loss when the Rangers forward’s dislocated left shoulder was slammed into the boards on a check by New Jersey defenseman Brad Lukowich.
Senators 3, Lightning 2: At Ottawa, Martin Havlat helped Ottawa finish off defending Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay in five games, scoring a power-play goal in the second period and adding an assist in the Senators’ victory over the Lightning.
Peter Schaefer and Andej Meszaros scored first-period goals and Ray Emery made 26 saves for Ottawa, which won the series 4-1 to advance past the first round for the fourth time in nine straight playoff appearances since 1996-97.
Oilers 3, Red Wings 2: At Detroit, Dwayne Roloson made 30 saves, Edmonton scored three goals in the second period and the Oilers held off the Red Wings to take a 3-2 lead in the first-round series.

Red Wings captain Steve Yzerman missed his second straight playoff game with an upper-body injury.
Flames 3, Mighty Ducks 2: At Calgary, Alberta, Jarome Iginla scored two goals, Tony Amonte added a short-handed score and the Flames held off Anaheim to take a 3-2 lead in the first-round Western Conference series.
