Shock trade former Coug Taylor

The Spokane Shock announced Wednesday that wide receiver/linebacker Nian Taylor was traded to the Bakersfield Blitz for future considerations.

Taylor, who played at Washington State University, was averaging 28.3 yards per game.

Women’s golf

Paige Mackenzie fired a three-round total of 5-under-par 211 at the Pac-10 Championship, becoming the first Washington golfer to win the individual title.

The Huskies finished in sixth place at the 6,495 yard par-72 Oro Valley (Ariz.) Country Club.

Washington State’s Ana Kostina shot a 220 and tied for sixth, as the Cougars landed in ninth. Amy Eneroth (Mead High) contributed a 19th-place finish.

UCLA won its third consecutive title, by one stroke over Arizona State.

“Idaho’s Renee Skidmore shot rounds of 76, 74, and 78 for a second-place finish at the Western Athletic Conference Championship at the Coyote Creek Golf Club in Morgan Hill, Calif.

The WAC Player of the Year helped the Vandals to third place at 939. First-place San Jose State finished at 922.

Men’s golf

Erik Olson fired a final-round 70 to lead Washington to a second-place finish at the Pac-10 Championship at the Big Horn Country Club in Palm Desert, Calif.

Olson shot a 284 at the 7,009-yard par-71 track to finish in third place. Alex Prugh (Ferris High) ended in 14th place with a 288.

Washington State finished in eighth, and Kevin Chen led the Cougars with a 31st-place finish.

UCLA earned the team title over UW by a 12-stroke margin.

Baseball

Columbia Basin (31-7, 12-6) swept Community Colleges of Spokane in a Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges doubleheader at Pasco.

Stephan Malkuch and John Whiteside collected three hits apiece, but the Sasquatch (13-21, 8-10) dropped the early game 11-3.

CCS dropped the second game 7-3, despite two hits and two RBIs from Cody Brubaker.

Men’s basketball

Idaho head coach George Pfeifer announced the signing of Clyde Johnson to a letter of intent to play for the Vandals next fall.

Johnson, a 6-foot-7, 205-pound forward from Aurora, Colo., transfers to Idaho as a junior from Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colo.

“Former North Idaho College basketball player Jacque Pate was found shot to death Sunday night near Washington, D.C.

Pate, 23, who played in 29 games for the Cardinals during the 2001-02 season, was a senior at Bowie State.
