We’re betting Nick’s no saint
While his split with Jessica Simpson is a “nasty situation,” Nick Lachey says, he still loves her.
“I’ll tell you how I knew my marriage was over: I was told,” Lachey tells Rolling Stone.
Simpson, 25, filed for divorce in December after three years of marriage. She and Lachey, 32, starred in the MTV reality show, “Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica.”
“Jessica and I began playing these parts even when we were by ourselves,” Lachey says. “It became a really blurred line. There was a question about what truly was our reality.”
In an MTV special promoting his new album, “Nick Lachey: What’s Left of Me” (airing today at noon), he adds: “It’s not in any way vindictive or an assault on her. In a lot of ways, it’s more of an assault on me. … Jessica knows I still love her.”
As for Simpson, she reportedly pulled out of a Vanity Fair interview when the magazine insisted on discussing the divorce.
‘Idol’ speculation
Ace Young doesn’t take being voted off “American Idol” this week as a rejection.
“I don’t even look at it that way. I see it as a launching pad,” he says. “I’m so humbled and so excited and energetic, just waiting to see what opportunity comes out of this.”
Doing it Teddy style
“Daily Show” host Jon Stewart was impressed when Sen. Edward M. Kennedy showed up for Thursday night’s appearance with a posse of six people.
Said Stewart: “Ted Kennedy rolls like Snoop Dogg.”
Nervous Nellies
Nelly has agreed to pay $20,000 to a freelance photographer who claimed he was roughed up by the rapper’s bodyguard.
Jerry Livingston says he was taking photos of an April 2005 concert in Bridgeport, Conn., when the bodyguard, who apparently believed he was videotaping the show, threw him on the ground and pummeled him.
David Lee’s wrath
Former Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth, who replaced satellite-bound Howard Stern on the radio in seven major markets including New York, Philadelphia and Boston, has been bounced after a mere three months.
“I was booted, tossed, and it’s going to cost somebody,” fumed Roth, who signed a reported $4 million contract.
Now we’ve got the blues
Portland bluesman Curtis Salgado, the reported inspiration for John Belushi‘s Blues Brothers act (and a frequent Spokane visitor), has been diagnosed with liver cancer.
Salgado was diagnosed three weeks ago, his manager said. He expects to begin radiation treatment next month and eventually hopes to have a liver transplant.
