Edgecliff plans community events

The Edgecliff neighborhood is getting ready for summer, with a community meeting coming up, and classes and events scheduled for the weeks ahead.

An Edgecliff neighborhood meeting titled “Heading in the Right Direction” will be May 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Pratt Elementary at 6903 E. Fourth Ave. Meet with leaders in Edgecliff and the city of Spokane Valley as well as representatives from law enforcement and agencies handling health, housing, drug prevention and domestic violence.

There will be a light dinner, entertainment, baby-sitting for potty-trained children and activities for older kids.

Also happening in Edgecliff:

•Next Saturday the annual Spring Green Pickup starts at 8 a.m. Residents unable to take hazardous household waste – batteries, pesticides, paint, poisons, etc. – to the waste plant can leave them on their front porch for free pickup and disposal. Call 532-7645 and leave a message to arrange for pickup.

Volunteers 18 and older are needed to help with the pickup. Safety training will be Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Pratt School library. To volunteer, call 477-6345 and leave a message.

•At 6:30 p.m. May 10, SCOPE will hold its general meeting at Pratt School.

•From 6 to 8 p.m. May 16, Pratt School Library will host used-clothing distribution. To donate, bring clothing to the SCOPE office at 522 S. Thierman Road.

•A community yard sale is being planned for May 20 and 21. For more information, e-mail flakemaker@msn.com.

•Employers can sign up for free training on how to detect and handle domestic violence in the workplace. The program includes supervisor training, a workplace security assessment, domestic violence policy development and employee training.
