Cal knocks off Washington State
Brennan Boesch knocked a pair of two-run homers, and Brandon Morrow allowed two runs over seven innings as California opened a three-game Pacific-10 Conference baseball series with a 9-2 win over Washington State at Bailey-Brayton Field in Pullman.
Greg Lagreid hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning to score the Cougars’ only runs of the game. It was Lagreid’s first home run of the season.
WSU (22-13, 4-6) managed just four hits, one each from Jay Miller, Ryan Krauser, Paul Gran and Lagreid.
Boesch finished the day with three hits, five RBIs and three runs scored for the Bears (17-16, 5-5).
Volleyball
High school seniors Jackie Albright and Cassie Robbins signed national letters of intent to play for Washington State next season.
Albright, an outside hitter from Lake Forest, Calif., averaged 4.18 kills as a senior at El Toro High School. Robbins is a 6-foot-3 middle blocker from Eisenhower High School in Yakima. Her Cadets were runners-up in both the 2004 and 2005 State 4A volleyball championships.
