Millwood City Council – Council members heard presentations from representatives from Spokane Valley on the city’s code enforcement policy and Valley Fire on the CERT community volunteer program. Councilman Brian Votava officially submitted his resignation due to a work-related transfer. The council is now looking for letters of interest from Millwood residents willing to fill the position until the November 2007 election. (Source: Town clerk Eva Colomb)

Valley Fire – Commissioners granted a one-year unpaid leave of absence to firefighter Darrin Coldiron so he can take another trip to Sri Lanki to help in the aftermath of the country’s tsunami. (Source: Commissioner Joe Dawson)

Fairfield City Council – Council members discussed road oiling, which the town hasn’t been able to afford in recent years. Residents have been able to contract for it at a rate of 50 cents per foot, but that price is going up to 70 cents per foot this year. They also learned that beginning in 2007 SCAPA will not allow the town to give out burn permits. The town is planning its Arbor Day celebration in June. A recent census was completed, showing 629 residents, up 39 from the year before. The town plans to apply for a grant from the Association of Washington Cities to paint crosswalks. Liberty Lake SCOPE – Volunteers discussed their work with this month’s spring greening program to safely dispose of household contaminants. They also discussed the need to recruit new volunteers now that Liberty Lake has annexed a new area into the town. Volunteers also discussed plans to host a bike rodeo sometime this year.
