Pianist Marvin Goldstein performing at Met

Internationally known pianist Marvin Goldstein will perform Friday at 7:30 p.m. at The Met.

Since converting from Judaism in 1985, at age 35, the Israeli-born Goldstein has become one of the best-known Mormon entertainers. He has performed throughout the world and released more than 30 compact discs, the most recent with Grammy winner Billy Dean and former NBA star Thurl Bailey.

Goldstein has started a Peace With Music Foundation to promote world peace through music, and is planning a concert at the White House for Middle East peace featuring Israeli and Palestinian singers.

Friday’s concert also will feature a local guest vocalist, Andrea Louise Birch. Tickets are $12, by calling 928-3190 or by e-mail at andilou@comcast.net.

Guitar King in Sandpoint

Former national fingerstyle guitar champion Steven King will give a concert Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Panida Theater in Sandpoint.

King, who lives in Granite Falls, Wash., boasts a repertoire ranging from big-band swing to the Beatles to bossa nova.

Tickets are $20 in advance, through Sandpoint Music, Main Street Music & Games, FC Weskil’s and www.guitarbyStevenKing.com, and $25 at the door.

Soloist speaks

Clarinetist Richard Stoltzman, Friday night’s featured soloist with the Spokane Symphony, will appear at Classical Chats today at 12:15 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall. The 30-minute program will be televised on City Channel 5.

The “Made in America” concert will feature works by Aaron Copland, George Gershwin, Conrad Pope and Paul Hindemith. Tickets are $15 to $35, through the symphony ticket office (624-1200) and TicketsWest outlets (325-SEAT, 800-325-SEAT, www.ticketswest.com).
