Garbage truck freed from telephone lines

The Spokesman-Review

A garbage truck tangled in telephone wires was the highlight of Spokane Valley Fire Department’s calls between March 28 and April 3.

Crews responded to the Spokane Industrial Park on North Sullivan Road on Monday to find the garbage truck tangled in multiple telephone lines, said David Lobdell, an assistant chief. No one was hurt during the incident, and the garbage truck was successfully removed.

Valley Fire responded to 152 calls during the seven-day period.

Most of the calls were relatively minor, other than the emergency medical responses, Lobdell said. Crews went to 126 medical calls. The patients ranged in age from 17 days to 100 years old.

Firefighters responded to four fires, all were very minor, fire officials said. Crews also went out to 11 vehicle crashes, three of which required patients being taken to a hospital. No one suffered life-threatening injuries.

Spokane Valley Fire also responded to 11 miscellaneous calls, four of which were small hazardous material calls – small amounts of gas, two gallons of diesel and a little antifreeze.
