Dorothy Dean Favorite
Here is favorite recipe from the Dorothy Dean cookbooks. It was the prize-winning entry from the 1964 Recipe Treasure Hunt contest.
Peanut Butter Chocolate Pinwheels
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg
1 1/2 cups sifted flour
1 teaspoon soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup or a 6-ounce package chocolate chips, melted
Cream shortening, peanut butter, sugars and vanilla. Beat in egg. Sift flour, soda and salt. Stir in. Roll dough 1/8-inch thick; spread on melted chocolate; roll up tightly. Wrap; chill at least 1 hour or overnight. Slice 1/4-inch thick. Arrange on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes.
Yield: 5 to 6 dozen cookies
