Rogers, Clarkston split
A walk-off hit finished the first game and an error produced the winning run in the second as Rogers and Clarkston split a Greater Spokane League baseball doubleheader Monday at Rogers.
Chad Como’s RBI double scored Jacob Partridge in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Pirates (1-3) claimed a 4-3 victory in the first game.
Jacob Acey scored the winning run on a passed ball in the bottom of the eighth as the Bantams (4-2) won 5-4 in the nightcap.
•Tanner Hamilton went 3 for 4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored to lead East Valley to an 11-8 win at West Valley in the completion of Saturday’s rain-interrupted game.
WV outhit the Knights 14-8, but EV (3-3) capitalized on 10 walks, three hit batters and four WV errors to score nine unearned runs. The Knights pulled away with a six-run fourth inning. Justin Marlow went 4 for 5 with a double and a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored for the Eagles (3-1).
College men’s golf
Led by Jordan Carter’s 4-under-par 68 that earned him medalist honors, Whitworth surged from behind to tie Linfield for the team title Monday at the Northwest Conference Spring Fling in Mission, Ore.
The Pirates posted four sub-par scores on the final day for a 36-hole team score of 590. After an opening 75, Jordan had a 143 for a four-stroke victory. Teammate Sean Thompson was fourth at 148.
Whitworth, with 13.5 points based on finishes in the fall and spring classics, has the lead in the NWC title race.
College baseball
For the fourth time in eight weeks, Washington pitcher Tim Lincecum has been named a national player of the week by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.
Lincecum earned the recent honor for a nine-inning, two-hit shutout of UCLA in a 5-0 Huskies win Friday. He struck out a career-high 18 batters, including the first seven, walked one and allowed only two balls out of the infield.
In his last 32 innings, the junior has allowed only 10 hits and one earned run while striking out 44.
