From an ode to the Pill to the benefits of chewing (gum, that is), recent posts to Health Beat take a look at the wacky side of medicine.

In her blog, staff writer Heather Lalley also muses over recent research regarding the positive effects, or lack thereof, that prayer had on heart bypass patients and the fascinating tales of those who miraculously survive tragedies.

And, about that 2-month-old Pakistani girl who was operated on recently to remove two fetuses from her abdomen, Lalley writes, “The human body is a strange and mysterious thing.”
