Refs too much a factor

The Spokesman-Review

I have been sitting here thinking about how officiating has become a controversial issue in sports.

This last debacle between UCLA and Gonzaga has really brought it to the front. When a team at the 2-minute mark decides to carry on a pressing action and the officials decide to stop blowing whistles on the noticeable infractions that are being perpetrated by the action, then it becomes just a matter of time before the victor is decided.

I do believe sometimes the refs do not see everything. But after this game it seems there could have been a few more calls – just to prove a game could be decided if a few more heavy decisions could have supported a couple of more fouls (that were not called) and not been used to defeat the hapless victim!
