He expects more
Since their ousting from the NCAA tourney, all I have seen on local TV are thank-you commercials for the Zags. Thank you for what, another season of great non-conference play? For another season of steamrolling through conference play? (Let’s not kid ourselves: The WCC is a midmajor with the exception of the Zags.)
Since the ‘99 season their level of play has made it commonplace for them to be ranked in the top 10, win the regular-season and conference tournaments, and disappoint fans in the NCAA tourney. I am all for giving credit where it is due, and the Zags are due, but with the consistent regular-season accomplishments they accrue it’s time to raise the bar.
I am a faithful Zags supporter and will continue to support them, but it becomes difficult when a team falters during the most important part of the season.
I know the Zags are the first successful sports program Spokane has had, and we don’t know what to do with them, but do you really think North Carolina is thanking UNC and Duke for their early exits? Probably not. The reason? People expect more from the best teams in the nation, Zags included.
