‘Nonviolence’ series includes documentary

North Idaho College will host the last event of the “2006 Gandhi and King: A Season for Nonviolence” series held in promotion of nonviolent activism with a showing of the documentary “Peace One Day” at 2 p.m. April 5 in Todd Lecture Hall.

“Peace One Day” is the story of one man’s attempts to persuade the global community via the United Nations to officially sanction a day of nonviolence and global cease-fire. The film was launched in 1999 by British director Jeremy Gilley, documenting his six-year journey as he meets heads of state, Nobel peace laureates, aid agencies, victims of war and U.N. members.

The film was nominated for the Directors Guild of Great Britain 2005 award for outstanding directorial achievement and for best documentary in the British Independent Film Awards. It earned the Kodak Award for best documentary in the Adelaide Film Festival and won both the Humanitarian Award and the Special Award in the Tiburon International Film Festival in 2005.

Attendees at the film can elect to make signs and participate in a peace march following the film.

The event is sponsored by NIC’s Diversity Events Committee, Diakonia, Peace Coeur d’Alene and the NIC Students for Progressive Change. It is free and open to the public.
