GSL Preview Golf

The Spokesman-Review

Boys

Central Valley senior Nick Grigsby and Clarkston senior Joel Dahmen are already among the favorites to win their respective state titles, because both have done it before. Grigsby won the 2005 4A championship with a birdie on the final hole, and Dahmen, signed by the University of Washington, won the 2003 3A title as a freshman, finished second last year and was fourth at the Rosauers Open Invitational this summer. … Ferris finished second to Clarkston in the first GSL event, held in Clarkston, but the Saxons should have an excellent chance to repeat as league champs behind four juniors – Dustin Poe, Tyler Lynn, Ryan Jones and Sean Bulger. Poe and Lynn were first-team all-league last year and Poe went on to win the district championship and finish 16th at state. … Mead returns a pair of all-leaguers, Jordan Lee and Erick Henderson, and both finished in the top eight in Clarkston. … Dahmen beat Grigsby and Lee by a stroke in the first GSL event, but Grigsby beat Dahmen at Manito CC in the Jim Shriver Cup.

Girls

Mandy and Haley Parsons (University) and Amy Eneroth (Mead) are playing at Washington State now, but the cupboard is far from bare. Annie Brophy, a Gonzaga Prep senior, finished fourth at the State 4A tournament last year, Lewis and Clark senior Molly Fuhs finished 11th and CV senior Nicole Barham was 13th. … LC could easily repeat as league champion with Fuhs, Allison Moran and Katrina Bech leading the way. Moran, a senior, was first-team all-league last year, and Bech, a junior, made the second team. Fuhs also earned first-team honors last year. … LC edged Mead 415-416 at the first event in Clarkston, but Mead had five golfers in the top 15, including sophomore Lauren Howell, who tied Fuhs for medalist honors. Brittany Wilcox and Devon Plopper both tied for seventh, Sarah Villalovoz was 13th and Emma Bushman finished tied for 15th. … Brophy continued a tradition at G-Prep, extending the run of Brophy sisters finishing in the top five at state to five years, joining older sisters Ellie and Katie.

State tournaments

For the second consecutive year, all eight state golf tournaments will be held in the Spokane area May 23-24. The 4A boys tournament is at Qualchan and the girls are at Hangman Valley. The 3A boys will be at Indian Canyon and the girls will play at MeadowWood.
