Unbeaten Moscow wins 4A Region 1 tournament
Kelsey Taylor had 11 kills as Moscow (25-0) won the 4A Region 1 volleyball title by beating Post Falls 25-20, 25-16, 25-12 Saturday at Moscow.
Moscow beat Sandpoint 25-11, 21-25, 25-14, 25-18 earlier. … In other 4A Region 1 play, Lakeland, which lost to Post Falls earlier, beat the Trojans 25-11, 21-25, 25-17, 29-31, 15-11 to advance to a state play-in match at Grangeville next Saturday.
•In 3A District 1 tournament action at North Idaho College, Jenna Robinson had 18 kills as St. Maries swept Kellogg 25-10, 25-14, 25-6. Kellogg had beaten Priest River to advance to play St. Maries. The Lumberjacks will play Timberlake on Tuesday in a winner-to-state matchup. … Bonners Ferry, which had lost to Timberlake earlier, rode Katie Poston‘s 15 kills to beat Kellogg 25-16, 25-21, 23-25, 25-17 in a loser-out match. Bonners will play the loser of the St. Maries/Timberlake matchup Tuesday.
Boys soccer
Kyle Wise scored for Coeur d’Alene (7-4-5, 6-3-3), but Sam Johnson answered for Moscow (3-8-2, 2-8-2), as the teams played to a 1-1 tie to close out the Inland Empire League regular season at Moscow. Moscow will travel to Post Falls in a loser-out match in the 4A Region 1 tournament Tuesday. The Vikings, as a two seed, host No. 3 Lewiston in a loser-out match Monday in the 5A Region 1 tournament.
•Ryan Lame had a pair of goals but it wasn’t enough as Orofino (0-5, 0-4) fell to St. Maries (7-9-1, 4-2) 3-2 in Intermountain League action at St. Maries. The two will meet again Friday in a 3A District 1 loser-out match at Post Falls.
Girls soccer
Four different Vikings scored as Coeur d’Alene (13-3-1, 9-2-1) secured first place in the IEL with a 4-0 shutout of Moscow (6-7-1, 5-6-1) at Coeur d’Alene. Moscow will head to Lakeland Monday in a 4A Region 1 loser-out match.
•Jennifer Putnam had four goals as Bonners Ferry (5-6-1, 5-0-1) beat Priest River (3-2-1, 3-2-1) 5-2 in Intermountain League action at Bonners Ferry. … In other IML play, four Lumberjacks scored as St. Maries (4-9-1, 3-3) beat Orofino (0-7, 0-6) 4-1 at St. Maries.
