Free dump passes available at Shadle Center
Fifty free dump passes valued at $25 each will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis for the Balboa/South Indian Trail Neighborhood from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at COPS Northwest at Shadle Center, 2215 W. Wellesley Ave., Suite D.
The passes are good through Oct. 23. Bring a driver’s license or utility bill to show you live in the neighborhood.
The neighborhood boundaries are Francis to the south, the old landfill and Five Mile Rim to the north, Seven Mile Road to the west and Cedar to the east.
Twenty-five dump passes will be given out at 10 a.m. Saturday and another 25 will be given out at 10 a.m. Monday for the Northwest neighborhood at the COPS Northwest substation, 2215 W. Wellesley Ave.
The free passes, valued at $20, will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis. The passes are valid from Oct. 22 through Nov. 5.
A driver’s license or a utility bill is required to verify area of residence.
The Northwest Neighborhood Association covers the area west of Ash to the Spokane River and bounded by Francis on the north, to Fairview, Belt and Indiana on the south, including Westgate and Northwest Terrace.
Free dump passes for the North Hill neighborhood will be distributed from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday from the COPS Mobile unit at the St. Francis of Assisi parking lot at 1104 W. Heroy Ave. Also bring your residential clean-green yard waste to the parking lot on Saturday. Free coffee will be served.
Bring ID or a utility bill showing that you live in the neighborhood. You also can register for curbside appliance pickup scheduled for next Thursday.
Boundaries for the North Hill neighborhood are Cora and Courtland on the ridge to the south, Francis Avenue to the north, Ash to the west and Division to the east.
Land Use Plan draft on display
The North Indian Trail Neighborhood’s Land Use Plan draft is now available for public viewing and comments. You can find it along with instructions at a Web site, www.NITNC.com.
Hard copies are available at the Indian Trail Branch Library, 4909 W. Barnes.
The comment period continues through Nov. 4.

Kendall Yards fence temporary
A temporary fence will be going up around the Kendall Yards construction site at the south end of the West Central neighborhood. The fence is not permanent, but it is needed to prevent people and pets from falling into holes that will be dug on the site.

Finch holds leaf festival
The Fall Leaf Festival will be Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Finch Arboretum.
The free family event includes a gigantic leaf pile for the kids to romp through, along with arts and crafts projects sponsored by the Corbin Art Center; hands-on demonstrations and displays by the Washington State University Master Gardeners and Spokane Rose Society and more.
The Spokane Regional Solid Waste system will provide composting information, and the urban forestry staff will plant a tree and provide an opportunity to learn more about trees and how to plant and care for them. For more information, call 624-4832.
