SuperSonics re-sign Evans to 1-year deal
Restricted free-agent forward Reggie Evans signed a one-year contract with the Seattle SuperSonics on Tuesday, rejoining the team he started 79 games for last season.
Terms of the deal were not released by the team.
“We’re thrilled to have one of the top rebounders in the NBA back,” general manager Rick Sund said in a statement. “Reggie is a tenacious rebounder, and he has always found a way to have an impact on the court. He’s like a bulldog around the boards.”
Evans averaged 4.9 points and 9.7 rebounds last season, his third with Seattle. He signed as an undrafted free agent out of Iowa before the 2002-03 season.
Seattle waived rookie free agent guard Omar Thomas.
League approves Curry trade
The New York Knicks are ready to take a chance on Eddy Curry, but they want doctors to sign off on the health of the 22-year-old center’s heart first.
The NBA approved a trade that sends Curry and veteran center Antonio Davis from Chicago to the Knicks for forwards Tim Thomas, Michael Sweetney and Jermaine Jackson.
The trade requires that all players pass a physical. In Curry’s case, it will involve tests by a team of doctors to determine whether an irregular heartbeat that forced him to miss the last 13 games of last season and the playoffs was an isolated incident or a serious problem.
Rockets acquire Alston
The Toronto Raptors traded temperamental point guard Rafer Alston to the Houston Rockets for guard Mike James.
Alston was involved in several scrapes last season. He threatened to quit the team and the NBA after a Dec. 3 game in Boston and was suspended by the Raptors for two games after he walked out during practice.

The Portland Trail Blazers signed forward Sam Clancy to a one-year contract.

“Tim Grgurich was hired as an assistant coach with the Denver Nuggets, ending his legal fight with the Trail Blazers.
Grgurich had sought a temporary restraining order against the Trail Blazers, asking that he be allowed to pursue a new job.
