Opa!
The ladies of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church have been in the kitchen for months preparing this feast. But by now they have it down to an art.
For the 70th time, they will treat Spokane to a taste of the old country at its annual Greek Festival on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Dinner is served nightly from 4:30 to 8 p.m., including beef kapama, beef braised in an authentic Greek spiced tomato sauce. It is served with imported Greek orzo pasta tossed with browned butter and myzithra cheese. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for children under 12. Get cozy with the other diners in the church hall or take it home.
Souvlakia from the grill and salads will be served from 4:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, as well as Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. Wine and beer are available.
The real reason to go is to sample the array of honey-drizzled, powdered-sugar-dusted pastries – diples, loukoumades and baklava, to name a few. Pastries are available each day starting at noon. There’s also Greek coffee, a deli with imported cheeses, olives and appetizers, along with Greek cooking demonstrations, raffles and dancing.
The church is located at 1703 N. Washington St. For more information, call 328-9310 or go to www.holytrinityspokane.org. Click on Parish Events, then Greek Festival Dinner.
