Chris Davis outgained Brewster by himself.

Davis had 175 yards on 33 carries and scored three touchdowns as Freeman romped over Brewster 38-7 Saturday in a State 1A play-in game at Freeman.

The fifth-ranked Scotties (8-2) advance to the first round of the State 1A playoffs and will take on top-ranked Royal (11-0) Saturday at Central Valley.

Freeman, which racked up 273 yards on the ground, held Brewster (7-5) to 135 yards of total offense, 65 of which came on a touchdown pass from Chase Lamoreaux to Clay Gebbers.

Jacob Kitterman and Chris Swanson also scored rushing touchdowns for Freeman.

Zillah 16, Colfax 7: Zillah proved it could win even if its high-powered offense isn’t clicking.

The Leopards used a swarming defense and terrific special-teams coverage to shut down the visiting Bulldogs in a State 1A play-in game in Zillah.

“Our offense was probably not the best tonight, but the defense made plays when we needed them,” Zillah head coach Terry Duncan said.

Zillah held Colfax (6-5) to 170 total yards, 94 of which came on the ground. Kyle Hill caught the Bulldogs’ only score, a 24-yard pass from Ben Aune.

“We played probably our best game of the year,” Duncan said. “It was a total team effort.”

The ninth-ranked Leopards (8-3) advance to take on second-ranked Tonasket (9-1) in the first round of the State 1A playoffs.

Grandview 32, Colville 22: The Indians are going to have nightmares about Brandon Artz.

Artz played a part in four touchdowns – two on offense, two on defense – as Grandview knocked off Colville in the first round of the State 2A playoffs in Grandview.

Artz scored on a 9-yard run, two interception returns totaling 70 yards, and threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to James Vela.

Grandview (7-4), which two weeks ago had never won a postseason game, earned its second straight playoff victory and a spot in the 2A quarterfinals against fourth-ranked Connell (11-0) either Friday or Saturday, likely in the Tri-Cities.

Colville ends its season at 6-4.

The Greyhounds, who opened the season 3-0 before losing four of their next six, are on the rise again.

“We played some good ballclubs,” Grandview head coach Dustin Lamb said. “We never thought we were struggling – just finding our footing.”

Artz finished 17 of 25 for 188 yards and a touchdown and Vela also ran in a score.

Artz also had picked off three passes, including a 40-yarder and a 30-yarder for scores, as the Grandview defense forced Colville’s Cody Yecha into four interceptions.

“We’re just soaking it up,” Lamb said. “We never had a postseason win and now we have two.”
