Rotaract gives scholarship fund to CCS Foundation

Spokane Rotaract recently presented the Community Colleges of Spokane Foundation a $10,000 scholarship fund.

The fund will supply a CCS student a scholarship of $650 per year. To qualify, the student needs to be an incoming freshman with a high school grade-point average of 2.5 or higher, active in community service, and able to show work experience and participation in extracurricular activities. Applications may be obtained by visiting www.ccs.spokane.edu or calling 434-5123. Deadline is April 15.

Spokane Rotaract is a community service organization made up of young professionals from ages 18 to 35. For more information, call 444-2350.

Science educational funding

The National Science Foundation’s Elementary, Secondary and Informal Education program will host an informative meeting on Monday.

Dr. Emmett Wright, program officer for the organization, will discuss funding opportunities from noon to 1 p.m. in the auditorium of the Phase I building of the Washington State University-Spokane Riverpoint campus. Wright also will be available from 1 to 3:45 p.m. to discuss specific project ideas. Call 744-0972 to schedule an appointment.

Kudos

Gonzaga University students recently raised $46,490 to benefit the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

The money was raised through a philanthropic program called “Up ‘til Dawn” held Jan. 29 on the Gonzaga campus.

Student support

Dine on lasagna, place a bid in a live or silent auction, and benefit the 2005 senior class at Rathdrum, Idaho’s Lakeland High School.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for Saturday’s event at the school, 7006 W. Highway 53. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m., followed by live and silent auctions.
