Gonzaga will play Pepperdine-San Diego winner

Gonzaga University will play either Pepperdine or San Diego in the 6 p.m. semifinal Sunday of the West Coast Conference men’s basketball tournament at the Leavey Center on the Santa Clara University campus.

GU, the No. 1 seed and regular-season champion, is seeded into the semifinals, as is No. 2 seed Saint Mary’s. The Gaels will play either the San Francisco or Santa Clara in Sunday’s 9 p.m. semifinal. USF defeated Portland 65-60 in Friday’s late game, putting the Dons into a matchup with the host Broncos tonight.

In Friday’s men’s tournament opener, the Waves rallied from a 12-point halftime deficit to down cross-town rival Loyola Marymount University 91-79. Pepperdine will play No. 4 seed USD today, with the winner advancing to meet the Bulldogs.

Glen McGowan had 19 points and Kingsley Costain and Alex Acker 17 each to lead five Waves in double figures.

The game was marred by 53 fouls and 69 free throws. Pepperdine went 30 for 40 from the line while LMU finished 21 for 29.
