ASU’s Westerberg honored by Pac-10

Central Valley High graduate Emily Westerberg, who leads Arizona State University in scoring and rebounding, was named to the All-Pacific-10 Conference team announced Wednesday.

Westerberg, who is 11th in the conference in scoring (11.4 ppg) and 20th in rebounding (4.9), was on the All-Freshman team last year. The 6-foot forward is also third in the league and 31st in the nation in free-throw percentage at 84.5.

Candice Wiggins of Pac-10 champion Stanford was voted Player of the Year by the 10 coaches. She is the first freshman to earn that honor. Tara Vanderveer of the Cardinal was named Coach of the Year.

Washington State University sophomore Kate Benz, who became the first Cougars player to lead the Pac-10 in rebounding, earned honorable mention honors. Washington sophomores Jill Bell and Cameo Hicks also made honorable mention.
