Summer is here, so is VBS

School is out, pools have opened and churches are launching vacation Bible schools. It’s official: Summer has arrived.

Two Valley churches have scheduled VBS sessions for July 11 to 15 and many other churches will follow as the summer passes. Some have more space than others, but it’s always advisable to sign up children early.

The theme of the Veradale United Church of Christ’s VBS session is Build a Better World. Children from Opportunity Christian Church and Westminster Congregational Church also are expected to attend classes from 9 a.m. to noon daily.

The session is for children age 4 through the sixth grade. The cost is $5 per child, and children must be registered by July 8. Call Veradale UCC at 926-7173 to register or for more information. The church is at 611 N. Progress Road.

Davey and Goliath’s Circus Spectacular is the theme of the VBS session at Zion Lutheran Church, 8304 E. Buckeye Ave. The daily classes from 9 to 11:45 a.m. will include crafts, games, Bible stories and music. Classes are open to children age 4 through the sixth grade.

The cost is $10 and pre-registration is requested. Call the church at 926-5407 for more information or to register.

In other news at Zion Lutheran, the church will make the switch to its summer schedule on Sunday. There will now be one worship service at 9:30 a.m. each week.

A bake sale will follow the service this Sunday. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the church’s youth group.
