Chiefs prepare to name coach
The Spokane Chiefs have scheduled a noon press conference for today and the Western Hockey League team will name a coach to replace the fired Al Conroy.
Chiefs officials refused to confirm who has been hired. Several sources told The Spokesman-Review that the leading candidate is Bill Peters, the former Spokane assistant under coaches Mike Babcock and Perry Ganchar.
Peters has been head coach at the University of Lethbridge (Alberta) for the past three seasons. His team finished its most recent campaign at 3-23-2.
Peters has previously been an instructor with the Dallas Stars Hockey School and earned his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Texas in Dallas in 1995.
