Shock snap Sun’s home win streak

Deanna Nolan scored 19 points, reserve Plenette Pierson added 17 and the Detroit Shock dealt the Connecticut Sun their first home loss of the season, 75-66 Saturday in Uncasville, Conn.

The Sun had won 10 straight at home this season and had a 15-game home winning streak dating to last season.

Elaine Powell finished with 14 points and five assists, and Cheryl Ford added 11 points and 13 rebounds for the Shock.

Silver Stars 68, Comets 63: At Houston, Shannon Johnson went 11 for 11 from the free-throw line and scored 18 points to lead San Antonio to a 68-63 win over Houston, the Silver Stars’ second road win of the season.

Bernadette Ngoyisa scored 10 points as the Silver Stars beat Houston for the first time in four tries this season.

Shock acquire All-Star Smith

The Detroit Shock acquired five-time All-Star Katie Smith in a trade with the Minnesota Lynx, adding the WNBA’s career 3-point leader to a lineup trying to earn a postseason berth.

Minnesota dealt Smith and a second-round draft pick in 2006 for Chandi Jones, Stacey Thomas, and a first-round pick next year.

In seven WNBA seasons, all with Minnesota, Smith averaged 17.7 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists.
