Rotting body found in garage in Yakima

Associated Press

YAKIMA – A foul odor reported by nearby residents led to the discovery of a decomposing body beneath a pile of debris in a garage, and police were interviewing nearby residents.

The body, apparently that of a man, had been in the garage for a week or longer before it was found Monday, and its condition complicated the task of removal for an autopsy, Yakima County Coroner Maurice Q. Rice said. Police were interviewing a woman and several children who live in a house next to the garage. The family apparently raised chickens, which likely covered the odor of the decomposing body for a time, investigators said.
