Make that two in a row for Indians

The Spokesman-Review

EVERETT – Don’t look now, but the Spokane Indians are streaking again.

But this time, it’s a good thing.

German Duran homered among his three hits and drove in three runs to lead Spokane to its second consecutive victory, an 8-1 conquest of the Everett AquaSox that officially gave the Indians a winning streak – albeit only two games.

Spokane’s 10-2 win at Everett on Tuesday night ended a nine-game skid which had dropped the Indians from first place to last place in the Northwest League East Division.

Jonathan Higashi and Julio Santana drove in two runs apiece to back Duran on offense, while Douglas Mathis was solid on the pitching mound, only allowing two hits in five scoreless innings.

Duran opened the scoring with a one-out homer to center field in the first inning.

Santana tripled with two outs in the second to score Higashi and Joseph Hooft and give Spokane a 3-0 lead.

Spokane scored three more runs in the fourth. Joseph Kemp had an RBI groundout with no outs and Duran doubled in two runs with two outs to make it 6-0.

Tanner McElroy replaced Mathis to start the bottom of the sixth and went the final four innings to pick up his first save.

He allowed three hits and struck out seven with only one walk, that coming in the ninth inning with two outs.

He would follow that walk up by allowing back-to-back singles to allow Everett to score its only run of the game.

Spokane had scored in the top of the ninth when Higashi tripled to center field, scoring Steve Murphy and John Mayberry with one out.

Spokane, tied for second place with Boise and Yakima with identical 12-17 records, welcomes division-leading Tri-City (14-15) for three games beginning tonight at Avista Stadium.
