Wible, Morrow lead RiverHawks to win

Aaron Wible went 3 for 3 and Dan Morrow was 2 for 3 with a pair of RBIs as the Spokane RiverHawks held on to beat the Kelowna Falcons 5-4 Sunday at Spokane Falls Community College.

Jonathan Staats (1-1) pitched seven innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out four to get the win.

Spokane (6-18) opened the scoring in the bottom of the first. Leadoff man Bryan Winston (Community Colleges of Spokane) and Will Ayala (Gonzaga University) were both hit by pitches. After Brad Wark advanced both runners up a base, Brent Mertens (West Valley High/CCS) singled home Winston and Ayala. Mertens finished the day 2 for 2 with a run scored and two RBIs.

The RiverHawks got three more runs in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead and seal the game.Brendan Kronberger went 2 for 4 with an RBI for Kelowna (8-10), which scored twice in the fifth and sixth innings.

Auto racing

Dave Lund racked up the night’s fastest time and won the A Main race in the Northwest Outlaw Street Stock Series at Stateline Speedway in Post Falls.

Lund clocked in at 15.11 in qualifying before winning the race. Kyle Cooley, who finished second behind Lund, is first in the Trophy Dash.

In other races, Kevin Burck won the Winged Sprints, Kevin McKeehan took the NW Late Model 4’s and Craig Felix notched a victory in the Hobby Stocks.

•Spokane’s Kevin Richards finished third at the 15th annual Coors Light Montana 200 in Kalispell, Mont.

Richards finished behind Yakima’s B.J. Tidrick, who took home the $10,000 prize, and Garrett Evans of Adrenvoir, Wash.

The race got one lap in Saturday night before a downpour cancelled the rest of the evening’s program and forcing the race to finish Sunday.

Dodgeball

Team Hillyard battled through the losers’ bracket and defeated Bust 4-2 and 4-1 to repeat as champion of the Spokane Valley Dodgefest at Medley’s Lounge, claiming the title billed as the world championship of dodgeball. Moonlight Enterprises finished third.
