Yankees 13, Orioles 8: At New York, Jason Giambi had his first multihomer game in two years and Bernie Williams hit a tiebreaking, two-run single in the eighth inning as New York beat Baltimore. Baltimore’s Rafael Palmeiro went 1 for 4 and has 2,993 hits for his career.

Indians 9-6, Tigers 3-0: At Cleveland, Travis Hafner hit his third home run of the day, Coco Crisp added an inside-the-park homer, and surging Cleveland spoiled the major league debut of Justin Verlander with a victory over Detroit to sweep a day-night doubleheader. Hafner homered twice and drove in five runs in the first game, leading the Indians to victory.

Rangers 6, Red Sox 5: At Arlington, Texas, Kevin Mench had an RBI single with one out in the ninth inning, and Texas rallied against struggling closer Keith Foulke for a win over Boston, who lost for the fifth time in seven games.

Twins 7, Angels 5: At Anaheim, Calif., Juan Castro had three RBIs, including a go-ahead two-run single, and Jacque Jones homered to lead Minnesota over Los Angeles.

White Sox 10, Devil Rays 8: At Chicago, Jermaine Dye matched a career high by driving in six runs with a grand slam and a single, and Chicago beat Tampa Bay.

National league

Astros 4, Padres 1: At Houston, Roy Oswalt made a strong case for late All-Star voters, pitching a five-hitter to lead Houston past San Diego. Hoping for his first All-Star berth, Oswalt is one of five pitchers eligible to earn the final spot on the National League team in Internet balloting this week. Trevor Hoffman, Brett Myers, Billy Wagner and Brandon Webb are the others.

Mets 5, Nationals 2: At Washington, demoted from leadoff to seventh in the lineup, Jose Reyes responded with two hits and scored the tying and go-ahead runs, helping New York to a victory over Washington.

Phillies 12, Pirates 1: At Pittsburgh, Bobby Abreu hit a grand slam and drove in five runs to lead Philadelphia past Pittsburgh.

Reds 11, Giants 10: At San Francisco, Jason LaRue hit a tiebreaking three-run double and finished with a career-high six RBIs, and Ken Griffey Jr. homered, leading Cincinnati over San Francisco.

Cardinals 10, Diamondbacks 3: At Phoenix, Matt Morris earned his 10th win, Scott Rolen hit a two-run double, and St. Louis beat Arizona.

Brewers 3, Marlins 2: At Miami, Ben Sheets struck out 10 in his first win in six starts, and Milwaukee scored the go-ahead run in the ninth inning on catcher Paul Lo Duca’s error on a play at the plate in a victory over Florida.

Braves 4, Cubs 0: At Atlanta, Kyle Davies outpitched Kerry Wood, and Adam LaRoche homered twice to lead Atlanta over Chicago.

Dodgers 4, Rockies 3 (11): At Denver, rookie Oscar Robles capped his five-hit night with a go-ahead RBI single in the 11th inning, lifting Los Angeles to a victory over Colorado.
