Stanley Jorgens

Spokane

Burial service for Stanley S. Jorgens, 94, will be today at 2 p.m. at Pines Cemetery Mausoleum, followed by memorial service at 4 at Valley Fourth Memorial Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jorgens, who died last Monday, was born in Nezperce, Idaho, and moved to Spokane when he was 10.

He graduated from West Valley High School, attended Spokane Junior College and worked for more than 40 years as a pressman at The Spokesman-Review and Spokane Chronicle.

He and his wife Evelyn lived in their home on Walnut Road in Spokane Valley that he built in 1941. They were married 59 years when she died in 1998.

Mr. Jorgens was involved in ministry and service, first at Beacon Chapel in North Spokane then Fourth Memorial Church downtown, and finally at Valley Fourth Memorial Church. He was a founding elder and Sunday school superintendent for many years at Valley Fourth Memorial.

Survivors include three sons, Duane and Winton Jorgens, both of Spokane Valley, and Terry Jorgens of Harrison, Idaho; a brother, Logan Jorgens, and a sister, Betty Wells, both of Spokane Valley; 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Valley Fourth Memorial Church Missions Fund.

Anita Moretz

Spokane Valley

Memorial service for Anita Corrine Moretz, 83, will be today at 1 p.m. at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home.

Mrs. Moretz, who was born in Edmonton, Alberta, died Tuesday.

She spent many years working with her husband, Ralph, in various businesses. She also was an employee of Washington Water Power.

Mrs. Moretz volunteered with the USO, Red Cross, Veterans Hospitals, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Compassionate Friends, Parents of Murdered Children, Hospice and PTA. She also was a foster mother.

She paid visits to hospital and nursing home patients often, and was a longtime member of All Saints Episcopal Church, where she served on the board as bookkeeper.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years; a brother, Clayton Tester of Spokane; eight grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Morning Star Boys Ranch or Hospice of Spokane.

Bertha Ryker

Spokane

Visitation for Bertha E. Ryker, 92, will be today from 9 to 11:45 a.m., with funeral Mass at 1 p.m. at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ryker, who was born in Wilbur, Wash., died Tuesday. She was a resident of the Spokane area for 70 years.

She was an executive secretary for Spokane and Eastern Bank, and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

She enjoyed golf and traveling.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean.

Survivors include a stepson, Brian Ryker of Spokane.

Merle Tilton

Spokane

Memorial service for Merle M. Tilton, 86, will be today at 11 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home.

Mr. Tilton, a resident of Spokane for 45 years, died Tuesday. He was born in Wing, N.D.

He graduated from Toppenish High School in 1936. He worked at Tuberculosis Hospital Dairy in Salem, Ore., and in 1938 married Maxine LeBlanc in Salem.

Mr. Tilton worked at numerous newspapers in the circulation department, and retired from The Spokesman-Review after 20 years of service as a circulation director.

He and his wife owned property on Lake Coeur d’Alene, and enjoyed traveling. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Ronald Tilton of Spokane and Kenneth Tilton of Cataldo, Idaho; a daughter, Peggy Hirst of Anchorage, Alaska; two sisters, Irma Wood of Laughlin, Nev., and Mable Stone of Sun City, Ariz..; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Margaret Driscoll

Spokane

Funeral Mass for Margaret “Maggie” Driscoll, 73, was Saturday at 9 a.m. at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Driscoll, who was born in Lincoln, Ill., died Tuesday.

She attended St. Mary’s Notre Dame and graduated from Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School. She went on to become an executive secretary for Standard Oil in Chicago.

In 1956, she married John Driscoll, and eight years later they moved to Spokane.

Mrs. Driscoll was a longtime member and past president of Sacred Heart Medical Center Service League.

She enjoyed playing bridge, knitting and cooking gourmet meals for family and friends.

Survivors include her husband; three children: John, Anne and Mary; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Hattie Ross

St. John, Wash.

Graveside service for Hattie J. Ross, 83, will be today at 11 a.m. at the St. John Cemetery, with funeral at 11:30 at the Christian Life Assembly in St. John. Bruning Funeral Home, Colfax is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ross, who was born in Potlatch, Idaho, died Thursday.

She met Arthur Ross while living in Potlatch, and the couple married in 1937 in Moscow. Mrs. Ross was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Survivors include a son, Danny Ross of Lewiston; a daughter, Sandra Blazer of Norwalk, Calif.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
