Two more break-ins reported
Two Government Way businesses in Coeur d’Alene were broken into this week and police suspect they are connected to a series of similar burglaries in the area.
Coeur d’Alene Police Lt. Jay Heintz said the two burglaries that happened Wednesday night or Thursday morning are consistent with several other break-ins where rocks or chunks of concrete were used to break windows. He wasn’t specific about how many other incidents have occurred.
“It seems they are looking for petty cash,” Heintz said Friday. “It’s happening all over the city.”
So far the police have no suspects, Heintz said.
The Kootenai County Driver’s License office and Coeur d’Alene Property Management were the latest victims.
About $3,215 in cash and a blank book of checks were stolen from Coeur d’Alene Property Management after the burglar threw a piece of concrete through a window. About $800 in property damage was done.
Business manager Debie Tatom discovered the break-in when she arrived at work Thursday about 7:40 a.m. Three bank bags also were stolen but found later that morning along with numerous checks on the northwest corner of Interstate 90 and Government Way.
The same night, a rock was thrown through the window of the county driver’s license office. No money was taken but about $500 in damage was done to the window.
County employee John Broughton realized the window was broken when he arrived at work about 7 a.m. Thursday. The cash register, with about $100 inside, was on the counter undisturbed.
