Valley Christian stuns No. 3 Lind-Ritzville

Valley Christian scored its biggest victory of the season, knocking off league-leading Lind-Ritzville, 52-46, in a Bi-County League boys basketball game in Spokane Valley on Tuesday night.

The Panthers (10-7, 9-6) accomplished what no other team has managed to do this season: knock off the Broncos (16-1, 14-1), who are ranked No. 3 in the state in the latest Associated Press poll.

Vitaliy Kozubenko scored 13 points and Josh Pope pulled down seven defensive rebounds to lead VC.

Jake Kragt had 13 points and Cameron Stevenson scored 12 to lead Lind-Ritzville.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 49, Liberty 46: The Warriors (9-8, 8-7) got 16 points from Greg Giese to turn away visiting Liberty. Andy Hodgson scored 15 points to lead the Lancers (10-7, 10-5), but leading scorer Andrew Canning was held to a single point. … Reardan 74, Sprague-Harrington 61: Reardan opened its home game on a 20-2 run and cruised to the victory. Bob Gambrel scored 19 and Eric Everett 16 to lead the Indians (6-11, 5-10). Terry Kissler had 16 points to lead the Falcons (4-13, 3-12). … Northwest Christian 77, Wilbur-Creston 45: The Crusaders used a big first-half to earn the win at Colbert. Josh Greer scored 17 points and Karl Richardson added 15 points and seven assists for Northwest Christian (16-2, 13-2). Michael Johnson scored 17 points to lead the Wildcats (7-10, 7-8).

Great Northern League

Colville upsets Chewelah

Colville earned its first Great Northern League victory of the season, upsetting the Cougars, 55-47, at Chewelah. Colville was 13 of 16 from the free-throw line – 10 of 12 in the fourth quarter. Dan Bell poured in 19 points and Brant Olson added another 14 to lead Colville (5-11, 1-7). Michael McCanna had 13 points to lead Chewelah (9-7, 4-4). … Deer Park 56, Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) 54: The Stags survived a fourth-quarter rush to score the victory at home. Lance Selle paced Deer Park (7-8, 2-5) by drilling 5 of 9 shots from beyond the 3-point arc, scoring 17 points. The Eagles (8-7, 4-3) got 15 points from Logan Erickson.

Whitman County League

Tigercats start fast, lap Rosalia

LaCrosse-Washtucna started its Whitman County League home game on a 12-2 roll and turned away Rosalia 58-28. Kyle Lepper pumped in 16 points and Dirk Wigen scored eight of his 11 points in the first half for the Tigercats (13-4, 6-3). Shane Koppel’s eight points paced the Spartans (4-14, 1-9).

Caribou Trail League

Barnaby leads Lake Roosevelt

Nick Barnaby scored 16 points to lead Lake Roosevelt to a 58-46 Caribou Trail League victory at Okanogan. David Brown scored 16 points to pace Okanogan.

Non-league

No. 2 Scotties romp

Freeman used 21 Riverside turnovers to score a 50-39 non-league victory at Riverside. The Scotties (16-2), ranked No. 2 in the latest AP state poll, got 15 points from Malcolm Soelberg. The Rams (10-5, 5-2) were led by the 13 points of Buddy Wood. … Medical Lake 63, Newport 32: Steven Wesley scored 18 points to lead the Cardinals (12-3) past the visiting Grizzlies (4-13). Wesley added 14 rebounds and six assists.
