Rathdrum council to interview nine
Nine Rathdrum residents are vying for an open council seat after Councilman Don Michael resigned earlier this month.
The Rathdrum City Council will have a special meeting Tuesday to interview the applicants. Mayor Brian Steele said he’s not sure if the new council member will be selected at the meeting.
“We’ll just wait and see,” he said.
Michael, who was appointed to the council in January 2004, resigned because of health reasons.
The retired U.S. Marine moved back to his native Missouri to spend time with family.
The candidates include Carmon O’Donnell and Dan Tesulov, who both ran unsuccessfully for the council in November 2004. O’Donnell also lost his 2001 council bid.
O’Donnell currently serves on the Planning and Zoning Commission, and Tesulov is a Parks and Recreation commissioner.
Planning and Zoning Commissioner Neil Oliver also is interviewing for the position along with Fred Meckel, Sara Wilt and George Kucera. The other candidates are John Fox, Kristen Storey and Alan Davis.
The interviews are open to the public, and the council and mayor will ask each candidate the same list of questions.
The council must confirm whomever candidate the mayor appoints.
The 6:30 p.m. meeting is at Rathdrum City Hall, 8047-1 W. Main Street.
