Watson”s pitching, hitting help Panthers stop Eagles
Kim Watson was the difference Tuesday afternoon in the Mead Panthers’ 5-0 victory over the visiting West Valley Eagles in Greater Spokane League softball play.
Watson tossed a complete-game two-hitter, striking out 13 along the way, and went 2 for 3 at the plate with an RBI single in the first inning and an RBI double in the fifth.
The third-place Panthers improved to 10-2 overall and 9-2 in league play. West Valley fell to 2-9, 2-8.
Elsewhere in the GSL, Randi Sandifer went 5 for 5 with seven RBIs to lead the first-place Shadle Park Highlanders (11-1, 10-1) to a 17-3 road win over the North Central Indians (4-7, 4-7). Sandifer tripled twice in the game, including one with the bases loaded in the sixth. … Angie Boardman went 4 for 4 with two doubles, scored three runs, drove in two more and stole three bases to lead the second-place University Titans (9-1, 9-1) to a 7-2 win over the visiting Rogers Pirates (5-6, 5-6). … Whitney McDaniel tallied three hits at the plate and struck out 11 batters on the mound to lead the visiting Central Valley Bears (9-3, 8-3) to an 11-6 win over the Lewis and Clark Tigers (1-10, 1-10) at Hart Field. … Michelle Tully fired a complete-game one-hitter, fanning six with no walks, and Laura Christianson had two hits, two RBIs and scored twice to lead the Gonzaga Prep Bullpups (9-3, 8-3) to a 7-0 victory over the visiting Cheney Blackhawks. Kristie Norman had three hits, an RBI and a run scored for the victors. … Leah Dubrock was 4 for 5 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI and Tiffany Bittner had three hits, scored three times and drove in a pair to spark the East Valley Knights (7-5, 6-5) to a 13-4 win over the visiting Ferris Saxons (0-12, 0-11). … Kristina DeMello threw a complete-game two-hitter and Angel Urann went 3 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs as the Mt. Spokane Wildcats (9-3, 9-2) breezed to an 11-0 win over the host Clarkston Bantams (4-8, 3-8).
“Sean Topp allowed just two hits and took a shutout into the bottom of the sixth and the visiting Post Falls Trojans (14-3, 10-1) rolled to a 12-2 win over the Lakeland Hawks (8-9, 7-7) in Inland Empire League play. Amy Musch had two hits and scored twice, and Erik Willy had two hits and two RBIs for the Trojans.

Chris Snyder went 2 for 2 with four RBIs, Travis Fox ripped a three-run double and catcher Brian Lynds threw out four runners attempting to steal to lead the Colville Indians (5-6, 5-6) to a 14-2 romp over the visiting Deer Park Stags (1-11, 1-10) in Great Northern League action. … Also in the GNL, pitcher A.J. Proszek hit a three-run home run in the first inning and Cameron Stroyan drove in the game-winning run with a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth to lift the Chewelah Cougars (10-3, 8-2) to a 5-4 win over the visiting Lakeside Eagles (9-3, 8-2). … The Pullman Greyhounds (10-1, 8-1) scored five runs in the top of the sixth on just one hit to rally for a 9-4 road victory over the Riverside Rams (2-12, 1-11). Pullman took advantage of nine walks, four hit batters and five Riverside errors to remain one-half game ahead of Chewelah in the GNL race.
“Travis Georgius singled home Shea Vucinich in the bottom of the 11th to lift the Coeur d’Alene Vikings to a 10-9 victory over the Sandpoint Bulldogs in Inland Empire League play. Sandpoint (7-12, 5-10) took a 9-5 lead into the bottom of the seventh before the wheels came off. Mike Estrada pulled the Vikings (13-6, 7-5) to within two runs with a two-run double, Jake Hall’s groundout pushed across another run, and Nic Duman sent the game into extra innings with an RBI single. Georgius went 3 for 5 with four RBIs, while Max Lyons finished 3 for 6 with a pair of runs. Hall, who pitched the first three innings, retook the mound in the 11th to pick up the victory.
Boys soccer
Jess Thompson and Pat Smart each had a goal and an assist to lead the Riverside Rams to a 2-1 victory over Pullman, handing the Greyhounds their first Great Northern League loss. After Pullman’s Levi Cororan knotted the score in the 29th minute, Smart scored the game-winner 8 minutes later. … Elsewhere in the GNL, the Colville Indians edged the visiting Deer Park Stags 4-3 by winning a shootout 4-2. Romeo Tsenterabze accounted for all three Deer Park goals. … Jason Gomez scored three goals and Lucas Assis scored twice to lead the visiting Medical Lake Cardinals to a 5-0 romp over the Lakeside Eagles at Nine Mile Falls.
Girls golf
Lewis and Clark finished 10 strokes ahead of runner-up Mead at a GSL girls match at Hangman Valley Golf Course. Mandy Parsons of University earned medalist honors with a 2-over-par 73. Mead’s Amy Eneroth (74) was second, followed by U-Hi’s Haley Parsons (77) and LC’s Molly Fuhs (78). Gonzaga Prep’s Annie Brophy (79) was fifth.
G-Prep finished third as a team with a score of 438, followed by U-Hi (439) and Central Valley (490).
