The victims of the failed Iran mission


 This Air Force C-130 crew from Hurlburt Field, Fla., lost five members in the failed attempt to rescue 53 American hostages from the U.S. embassy in Tehran, Iran. They are shown in front of their transport plane, April 24, 1980, in the Oman desert. The following day, a Marine Corps helicopter crashed into the C-130 in the Iranian desert.
