Royals 6, Tigers 5: At Kansas City, Mo., Angel Berroa hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning Friday night to cap Kansas City’s comeback from an early five-run deficit in a victory over visiting Detroit. Royals pitcher Jeremy Affeldt of Medical Lake got the first two outs in the ninth, and left with a strained groin after walking Brandon Inge.

Angels 6, Athletics 1: At Oakland, Calif., Bartolo Colon pitched seven impressive innings and outdueled Athletics ace Barry Zito to lead Los Angeles to victory over Oakland.

Red Sox 10, Devil Rays 0: David Wells pitched seven sharp innings in his first Fenway Park start for the Red Sox, and David Ortiz hit a grand slam to lead Boston to victory over visiting Tampa Bay.

Twins 3, Indians 2: At Cleveland, Johan Santana won his 16th straight decision, pitching six strong innings as Minnesota defeated Cleveland for its fifth straight win.

Orioles 8, Yankees 1: Bruce Chen pitched a four-hitter, and Miguel Tejada and Sammy Sosa hit successive homers to spark a seven-run sixth inning that carried Baltimore past visiting New York.

Rangers 4, Blue Jays 2: At Arlington, Texas, Ryan Drese pitched eight strong innings, and Michael Young homered and drove in three runs as Texas beat Toronto.

National League

Pirates 8, Cubs 5: At Pittsburgh, the Pirates roughed up Chicago’s Carlos Zambrano for five runs after barely scoring against him last year, and used Bobby Hill’s two-run double in the eighth to stop the Cubs.

Braves 11, Phillies 4: Raul Mondesi and Rafael Furcal each hit two homers, and Adam LaRoche added a two-run shot as visiting Atlanta beat Philadelphia.

Mets 4, Marlins 0: At New York, Aaron Heilman threw a one-hitter for his first complete game, and Mike Piazza broke out of a slump with three RBIs to lead New York over Florida.

Astros 11, Reds 2: Jason Lane homered twice, driving in a career-high five runs for visiting Houston, and Roy Oswalt improved to 13-0 against Cincinnati with a victory, the Astros’ biggest offensive splurge of the season.

Cardinals 3, Brewers 0: At Milwaukee, Jeff Suppan took a five-hitter into the ninth inning and St. Louis defeated Milwaukee’s Ben Sheets, who signed a $38.5 million, four-year deal earlier in the day.

Giants 13, Rockies 6: At Denver, Pedro Feliz hit a grand slam and drove in a career-high five runs, Noah Lowry pushed his undefeated streak to 22 games and San Francisco beat Colorado.

Dodgers 4, Padres 0: Derek Lowe pitched a three-hitter and drove in two runs, Jeff Kent and Milton Bradley hit consecutive homers and Los Angeles beat visiting San Diego. The Dodgers have won seven of their first nine games, their best start since 1983.
