Abandoned boat sinks in Lake CdA

From staff reports

A cabin cruiser, apparently left at a public dock near Carlin Bay Resort on Lake Coeur d’Alene, sank Tuesday morning, leaving a small oil slick and a larger mystery about who owns the boat.

An employee at the resort, north of Harrison on the eastern shore of the lake, said staff called authorities Monday evening to report the vessel as possibly abandoned.

Kootenai County sheriff’s officials weren’t able to find an owner through the registration stickers on the bow, a resort employee said.

Kootenai County Fire and Rescue sent a fire boat to the scene to contain and mop up a small slick of oil and gas that leaked from the sunken craft.

A barge-mounted crane, dispatched to the scene by Tuesday afternoon, hauled the boat to the surface.
