BOATING

Safety class set

An eight-hour boating safety course for every type of boater will be conducted by the Spokane Power Squadron starting Sept. 23 and running four consecutive Thursdays.

The U.S. Coast Guard-approved classes will be held 7-9 p.m. on North Monroe St. at 925 W. Jackson Ave. The course is geared to sailors and paddlers as well as power-boaters and jet-skiers. It’s ideal for anglers and hunters. Cost, including manual and interactive CD-ROM is $35 for adults, $17.50 for youths with adult.

CANYONEERING

Utah featured

Coeur d’Alene climber Robert Madsen will relive his climbing and navigating adventures through the scenic canyons and slots of southern Utah in a free slide show Tuesday 7 p.m., at Moutnain Gear, 2002 N. Division.

Featured areas include Canyons of Zion, Escalante Grand Staircase, Cedar Mesa Plateau and Dark Canyon Wilderness. Madsen said he will show about 200 slides covering hiking, backpacking, climbing, rappelling and swimming the in ancient home of the Anasazi and Fremont cultures that left behind pictographs, petroglyphs and dwellings.
