New Capri Sun, Skippy snack put to taste test
You would probably get away with slipping this new Capri Sun fruit drink into a lunchbox, but might want to hold your own family taste test for the new Skippy Snack Bars before sending them along.
The food panel members and their young guests all liked the new drink well enough, giving it a three-star and three-and-a-half-star rating respectively. The peanut butter snack bars got a similar rating but that was because food panelists either loved them or hated them. There was little middle ground, except when the final score averaged out to three stars for both the adult and kid testers.
The Capri Sun Fruit Waves juice (in the signature foil pouch) is a new 100 percent juice blend. It comes in three flavors – Fruit Dive, Apple Splash and Berry Breeze. We tried the Fruit Dive, the fruit punch flavored version.
Most of the adult panelists thought the drink was too sweet and most guessed it was sugar sweetened.
“Too artificial tasting to be 100 percent juice — must be the combination of flavors that gives it the not-real taste,” said panel member Larry Inman.
Some said it reminded them of apple cider and might make a nice hot drink.
“Not too sweet with a touch of cinnamon. This would be good heated up for winter,” said Tina Johnson.
The kid testers also said the juice was sweet, but they meant it as a compliment.
“Very sweet. It tastes like cranberry juice. I like it a lot,” said 10-year-old Stephen Gese.
“It tastes like apple juice only sweeter,” said Gage Prior, 9.
The panel members and guest tasters were more passionate about the Peanut Butter and Fudge Skippy Snack Bars.
“Daddy, I would like you to leave me this for breakfast when you leave early for work,” 4-year-old Pierce Hubbard told his dad.
But Gage Prior said there was no way he was going to eat the snack bar. “I wouldn’t feed this to my dog.”
The adults were equally conflicted by the new peanut butter confection.
“Delicious! Someone finally put peanut butter on the outside. They’re not pretty to look at, but if you’re into peanut butter this should be right up your alley,” said Skip Hubbard.
“Sort of dry and cardboardy. Overmanufacturered; tried way too hard to make something unique,” said Tina Johnson.
The snack bars also come in Peanut Butter and Marshmallow, Peanut Butter, and Peanut Butter and Strawberry flavors.
