Marlins 7-2, Cubs 0-11: At Chicago, Florida split a doubleheader with Chicago, winning the opener behind Carl Pavano’s shutout. Moises Alou and Aramis Ramirez hit back-to-back homers to lead the Cubs to a victory in the second game.

Pirates 6, Astros 1: At Pittsburgh, rookie John Van Benschoten allowed five hits in eight innings for his first major league win as Pittsburgh beat Houston. Van Benschoten gave up one run, struck out three and walked one, lowering his ERA from 6.64 to 5.08.

Reds 6, Brewers 4: At Cincinnati, Wily Mo Pena homered for the second consecutive night, and Cincinnati snapped a four-game losing streak by beating Milwaukee. Adam Dunn stole home on a double steal in the fifth for the Reds.

Braves 4, Expos 3: At Atlanta, Johnny Estrada hit a three-run homer as Atlanta defeated Montreal. Antonio Alfonseca pitched a scoreless seventh and John Smoltz recorded the final six outs, earning his 37th save.

Phillies 9, Mets 5: At New York, Jason Michaels went 4 for 5 with a homer and four RBIs to lead Philadelphia past New York. David Wright, Richard Hidalgo and Jeff Keppinger homered off Brett Myers for the Mets.

Padres 10, Rockies 4: At Denver, Khalil Greene and Ryan Klesko hit three-run homers in San Diego’s win over Colorado. Winner Brian Lawrence (14-12) allowed four runs, eight hits and three walks in six innings.

Diamondbacks 2, Giants 1: At Phoenix, Doug DeVore’s two-run homer helped Arizona beat San Francisco. Randy Johnson allowed one run and four hits in seven innings to earn his 100th victory with Arizona.

Dodgers 7, Cardinals 6: At Los Angeles, Steve Finley drove in the go-ahead run for the third consecutive game, hitting a tiebreaking, two-run homer in the seventh to lead Los Angeles over St. Louis. L.A.’s Adrian Beltre hit his major league-leading 45th homer.
