Eagles fall short against Prescott

In the end, it was the final two yards of a point-after-touchdown that tripped up St. John-Endicott.

The Eagles dropped a 20-18 decision at Prescott in a non-league 8-man football game.

St. John-Endicott piled up 225 yards rushing, led by Brent Leifer’s 114 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. Andrew Wolf threw for another 159 yards and a touchdown.

Prescott, meanwhile, had under 200 yards of total offense, and the Tigers’ initial touchdown came on a 27-yard return of a St. John-Endicott fumble.

The Eagles scored in the fourth quarter, cutting the Prescott lead to two points, but the two-point attempt failed.

In other 8-man games: The Washington State Class B-8 football player of the year, junior running back Kevin Dainty, carried the football three times, scoring three touchdowns and romping 152 yards as LaCrosse-Washtucna crushed Liberty Christian, 66-20 in a game called at halftime because the Tigercats had more than a 45-point lead. Dainty had scoring runs of 67, 60 and 20 yards, as LaCrosse-Washtucna scored 52 points in the first quarter alone.

Northeast B-11

Edd Collazo scored on a 3-yard fumble return to give Reardan all the scoring it needed in a 26-0 shutout of Wilbur-Creston. Ian Wagner rushed for a touchdown and passed for two more to lead Reardan, connecting on 6 of 12 passes for 147 yards. Wilbur-Creston had minus-2 yards passing and just 66 yards of total offense. … Republic held Almira/Coulee-Hartline to just 17 yards rushing and 140 yards of total offense in a 30-6 win. Junior Jesse Eich had 121 yards rushing on 19 carries and found the end zone three times. Sophomore John Palmier added 113 yards on 17 carries and scored a touchdown. … Nick Ashley rolled for 200 yards on just 10 carries and scored a trio of touchdowns to lead Lind-Ritzville past Davenport 51-12. … Derek MacArthur rushed 18 times for 152 yards and a touchdown to lead Selkirk past Springdale. Clint March carried 11 times for 78 yards and a touchdown and Travis Zimmerman picked off a pair of Charger passes. … Liberty crushed Odessa 63-6 behind Jeff Baird‘s four touchdown scampers. The senior had 129 yards on 19 carries for the Lancers, who held Odessa to just 30 yards rushing and 132 yards of total offense.

Southeast B-11

Tom Eylar turned in some overtime heroics to give Colton–Pullman Christian a 32-26 win in double overtime. Eylar caught a 25-yard scoring pass from quarterback Kyle Kelly to open overtime, but the two-point conversion run failed. Vadar Castillo, who rushed for three touchdowns in the game, bulled over from the one to tie the score for Touchet, but could not duplicate the feat for what would have been the game-winning two-pointer. Eylar intercepted a pass in the second overtime and scored the game-winner three plays later from 26 yards out. The win snapped Touchet’s eight-game winning streak against CPC.

Non-league

Andrew Dresback connected on 5 of 10 passes for 56 yards and accounted for three of Freeman’s four touchdowns in a 27-0 shutout at Deer Park. Dresback, brother of Jon Dresback, who guided the Scotties to last year’s state quarterfinals, threw for a pair of touchdowns, including a 29-yarder to Andrew Wilkerson, and scored on a 1-yard plunge in the first quarter. Kevin Hatch carried 16 times for 120 yards and returned an interception 33 yards. … Brewster steamrolled past Kettle Falls 34-10. … Tyler Dornquast connected on 8 of 16 passes for 240 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead Riverside to a 27-6 win over visiting Colfax. Running back Adam Anderson scored twice, once on a 44-yard pass from Dornquast and another on a 74-yard run. … Casey Tuschhoff and Josh Johnson each had two touchdowns for Asotin in the Panthers’ 35-12 win over Orofino. Tuschhoff scored on two short runs and Johnson added a 41-yard dash for a touchdown and pulled in a 15-yard pass from John Ausman for another. … Timberlake rolled past Chewelah 26-10 behind Nathan Anderson‘s 118 yards on 23 carries. Matt Douglass had 133 yards on 19 carries. … Lakeside crushed Kellogg, 52-2. … Lakeland edged Colville 20-14 as quarterback Kam Kiefer scored three touchdowns – two on quarterback sneaks and a third on a keeper. The Hawks scored with three minutes remaining in the game to break a 4-14 tie. … Casey Lohman scored three touchdowns to lead Kendrick to a 48-38 win over Garfield-Palouse. Lohman pulled down a 54-yard pass from quarterback Rex Ireland and bulled in from 12- and 3-yards out. Ireland threw three touchdown passes and engineered a pair of fourth-quarter touchdown drives that gave Kendrick a come-from-behind win. … Pullman built a 19-0 lead and stopped La Grande, Ore., 19-6.

Idaho

Matt Bennett was a load.

The senior running back piled up 110 yards on 18 carries as Bonners Ferry rolled past Lethbridge, Alberta, 48-13 in a non-league football game at Bonners Ferry.

Bennett opened the scoring on a 1-yard plunge in the first quarter, then dashed 17 yards for his second score before quarter’s end.

Not only that, Bennett booted four extra points for the Badgers. Junior Wes Nieman carried 11 times for 126 yards and a touchdown.

In other games: Lewiston knocked off visiting Boise 41-28. The Bengals scored the game’s first four touchdowns and never looked back. Kevin Maurer rushed for two touchdowns and Will Mannschreck caught a pair of touchdown passes from quarterback Jarrid Summers. … Lake City coach Van Troxel predicted Post Falls would upset one of North Idaho’s established programs at some point this season, and he was right. The Class 4A Trojans tagged the Class 5A Timberwolves with a 35-19 loss, snapping a seven-game losing streak to Lake City in the process, in the Inland Empire League opener for both schools.
