Ambrose Martinosky

Clark Fork, Idaho

Funeral for Ambrose Vincent Martinosky, 87, will be today at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Clark Fork. Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Martinosky, who was born in Dawson, Neb., died Sunday.

In 1945 he enlisted in the Army and was stationed in California.

In 1947 he married Ruth Boehm in Las Vegas.

The couple lived in San Diego and were members of the Dachshund Club. Mr. Martinosky also was club president for four years, and the couple bred and showed dogs for many years.

Mr. Martinosky owned his own business, Martinosky’s Overhead Doors.

In 1974 the couple moved to Clark Fork, where he worked as a carpenter.

He was involved in establishing the Clark Fork Ambulance and Senior Center. He was a member of the Clark Fork Rod and Gun Club, Grange and volunteer fire department.

He served two terms on the Clark Fork City Council and two terms as mayor of Clark Fork.

Mr. Martinosky enjoyed the outdoors, bingo and gardening.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Theresa, and a son, Ambrose, both of Missoula; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Grant Myers

Hayden, Idaho

Visitation for Grant Yost Myers, 66, will be today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Funeral will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 407 E. Honeysuckle Ave., with burial at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Myers, who was born in Highland, Utah, died Sunday.

He graduated from Utah State University with a bachelor’s degree in animal husbandry and agriculture.

He married Linda Thatcher in 1960 in Utah. They moved to Hayden Lake, Idaho, from Billings 26 years ago.

He worked for Swift Meat Co. for 20 years before starting Food Services Distributors in Spokane.

Mr. Myers was a member of the Mormon Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and the outdoors. He was an avid fan of University of Notre Dame football.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Shane Myers of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and Russell Myers of Las Vegas; two daughters, Melinda Myers of Las Vegas and Jill Killpack of Rigby, Idaho; and 10 grandchildren.

Sherrild Mills

Coeur d’Alene

Viewing for Sherrild R. Mills, 65, will be today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Service will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Lake City Community Church with burial at Forest Cemetery, Coeur d’Alene.

Mr. Mills, who was born in Coeur d’Alene, died Tuesday.

He was a lifetime Idaho resident and had lived in Boise for 10 years.

Mr. Mills worked for the Idaho state Transportation Department as a maintenance foreman for 38 years.

He attended Lake City Community Church, was a 4-H leader, member of Mica Grange and was active and involved with neighborhood kids. He enjoyed waterskiing, camping, snowmobiling, traveling and tinkering in his shop.

He is survived by his wife, Angie; a son, Greg Mills of Coeur d’Alene; two daughters, Sheri Farr of Pullman and Jeanni Mellor of Duncan, B.C.; two brothers, Ron Mills of Coeur d’Alene and David Mills of Boise; a sister, Margaret Gibson of Hayden, Idaho; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Newell ‘Bud’ Soelter

Spokane

Funeral for Newell Dale “Bud” Soelter, 73, will be today at 11 a.m. at Woodland Cemetery in Deer Park. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Soelter, a longtime resident of Spokane, died Friday. He was born in Belvue, Kan.

He worked with Donray Outdoor Advertising for many years, retiring in the early 1980s.

He attended the Hillyard Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Mary; three children, Rick Soelter of Spokane, Vickie Warren of Olympia and Sharon Larsen of Mead; seven siblings, Will Soelter of Deer Park, Richard Soelter of Quincy, Wash., Donald Soelter of Enumclaw, Wash., James Soelter and Erma Pozzobon, both of Maple Valley, Wash., Donna Williams of Seattle and Margie Overgaaw of Kent, Wash.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Perry Conley Jr.

Elk

Graveside service for Perry A. Conley Jr., 84, will be today at 3 p.m. at Fairmount Memorial Park. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Conley, who was born Wilbur, Wash., died Aug. 29. He was a resident of Elk for 75 years.

He drove ammunition trucks for the Army in Africa during World War II, and was a longtime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mr. Conley was an electrician. He retired from Black’s Industrial in the mid-1980s.

He married Ruth Owens in 1952.

Survivors include his wife; five children, Marcella, Marion, Paul, Melvin and Perry Conley III; five grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, two great-granddaughters and three stepgreat-granddaughters.

Richard Compton

Coeur d’Alene

Service for Rick Compton, 50, will be today at 11 a.m. at Gateway Christian Fellowship, 2300 Ironwood Drive. English Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Compton, who was born in Spokane, died Saturday.

He attended North Carolina State University, where he met his future wife, Sally Stockton.

Mr. Compton was ordained through MorningStar Ministries. He was a singer and songwriter.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years; a son, Benjamin; two daughters, Kathryn and Kristine; and one grandson.

Lou Horstman Jr.

Chewelah, Wash.

Memorial service for Lou Horstman Jr., 70, will be Sept. 18 at 2 p.m. at the Ag Trade Center Building in the Northeast Washington Fairgrounds in Colville. Danekas Funeral Chapel and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Horstman, who died Aug. 31, was born in Oklee, Minn.

He graduated from Oklee High School in 1952. He attended Bemidji (Minn.) State College until 1955, when he was inducted into the Army. While in Bemidji, he boxed as a lightweight for two years, both at the college and in Golden Gloves competition. He won all but two of his bouts.

After his Army service, he graduated from Bemidji with a Bachelor of Science in physical education and social studies.

He taught and coached in Michigan, N.D., until moving to Kwajalien in the Marshall Islands to teach.

In 1967 he earned a master’s degree in counseling at the University of North Dakota.

Mr. Horstman moved to Colville in 1967 and worked for Educational Service District as the vocational/financial aid counselor to the Class B schools in the area until 1995.

He moved to Chewelah in 1983.

He was the secretary of the Colville Elks Lodge for 23 years, and was a member of the Chewelah Dollars for Scholars board.

Mr. Horstman enjoyed hunting.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Sharon; and a brother, Jerry Horstman of Shelton, Wash.

Joseph Antosz

Spokane

Vigil for Joseph M. Antosz, 79, will be Friday at 7 p.m. at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mr. Antosz, who was born in Chicago, died Friday. He was a resident of Spokane for 21 years.

A veteran of the Army Air Corps, he served in the 8th Air Force from 1942 to 1945 in England. He had 37 missions over Europe as a radio operator and gunner on a B-17.

Mr. Antosz later graduated from the University of Washington and received a Master of Business from the University of Chicago.

He worked as a certified public accountant for Arthur Anderson out of Chicago, where he was manager for 10 years.

Mr. Antosz then worked for 20 years as a financial vice president of Beeline Fashions until his retirement in 1983.

He enjoyed fishing.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Regina Depner; four sons, Tom of Florence, Ore., John of Ephrata, Wash., Robert of Seattle and Steve of Ortonville, Mich.; three brothers, Chester, Stanley and Raymond, and a sister, Jane Wnek, all of Chicago; and three grandchildren.

Alice Greene

Coeur d’Alene

Funeral for Alice June Greene, 78, will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the English Funeral Chapel, Post Falls.

Mrs. Greene, who was born in Moscow, Idaho, died Monday. She graduated from high school in Moscow.

She moved to California and worked for several hospitals. She also was a licensed pilot. She worked for the Department of Lands in Sandpoint and Coeur d’Alene from 1961 to 1971.

In 1971 she married Raymond Greene, and they moved to Coolin, Idaho, where she worked for the Coolin-Kalispel Sewer District. She retired in 1986.

The couple moved to Post Falls in 1997.

Mrs. Greene enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening, huckleberry picking, walking, biking and horseshoes. She also enjoyed leather tooling, cooking and was an expert marksman.

She is survived by her husband; a son Jay Greene of Spokane; two stepsons, Kenneth Greene of Kennewick and Ronald Greene of Oregon City; a stepdaughter Cheryl Mills of West Linn, Ore., and a sister Juanita Kennedy.

Robert Selle

Sandpoint

Memorial service for Robert William “Bob” Selle, 88, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Coffelts Moon Chapel in Sandpoint. Mr. Selle, who was born near Colville, died Sept. 1.

He moved to the Sandpoint area with his family in 1923. He graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1934 and joined the Civilian Conservation Corps.

He married Florence Hawkins in 1937.

Mr. Selle went to work for the L.D. McFarland Cedar Products Co. in 1938 as a logging camp boss and later became plant foreman and retired in 1978.

He was an avid fisherman, hunter and outdoor sportsman.

Mr. Selle was preceded in death by his wife.

Survivors include two daughters, Donna Barber of Seattle and Kay Selle of Priest River, Idaho; a son, Dale Selle of Sandpoint; a sister, Edith Hansen of Lacey, Wash.; 20 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Bonner County Historical Society.

Ambrose ‘Woody’ Wood

Spokane

Memorial service for Ambrose Joseph “Woody” Wood, 59, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Mr. Wood, who was born in Utica, N.Y., died Friday.

He was a retired die caster.

In his younger years, he was an avid horseman and member of the Future Farmers of America. He enjoyed traveling, Westerns, war movies, music and reading. He also enjoyed writing essays.

He participated in Marriage Encounter weekends for the Catholic Church for 11 years.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Arleene; a son, William Wood of Spokane; three daughters, Denise Wood of Spokane, Holly Wood of Vancouver, Wash., and Julie Wirta of Brush Prairie, Wash.; his mother, Mary Wood; three brothers, Joseph and John Wood, both of Spokane, and Timothy Wood of Mission Viejo, Calif.; a sister, Sharon Wilson of Springfield, Ore.; and seven grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association or the Special Olympics.

Jane Wiens

Priest River, Idaho

Memorial service for Jane Elizabeth Wiens, 72, will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Schweikert family residence, 2090 HooDoo Mountain Road near Priest River. A potluck dinner will follow the service.Mrs. Wiens, who was born in California, died Aug. 28.

She graduated from St. John’s High School in Fresno, Calif. She later received a bachelor’s degree and was a teacher in Catholic schools for 18 years as Sister Mary Angela Hanson. Following her teaching years, she earned a master’s degree in the arts.

In 2001 she moved to HooDoo Mountain.

She was a member of the Lakeview Community Church in Coeur d’Alene. She enjoyed roller skating She was an accomplished tailor, seamstress and artist.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Wiens.

Survivors include a brother, Walter Hanson of California..

Richard Bertsch

Coeur d’Alene

Funeral for Richard A. Bertsch, 73, will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens. Yates Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bertsch, who was born in Fargo, N.D., died Monday.

He graduated from high school , in 1949 in Hillsboro, Ore., and married Ruth Scholz in 1952 in Blooming, Ore.

In 1953 he enlisted in the Army and was trained as a helicopter mechanic.

In 1956 he and his wife moved to Coeur d’Alene, where he went to work in the construction industry with his father.

Mr. Bertsch was a founding member of Christ the King Lutheran Church.

He enjoyed elk hunting and having morning coffee with his friends. He also was a fan of the Seattle Mariners.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Tom and Joel; a sister, Renee Geisler of Auburn, Wash.; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Wayne ‘Stewie’ Rasmussen

Sagle, Idaho

Private memorial service is planned for Wayne Stewart “Stewie” Rasmussen, 83. Lakeview Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Rasmussen, who was born in Porter, Wis., died Sept. 1.

He was employed by the Commonwealth Edison in Rockford, Ill., for 40 years. He was an active member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

In 1942 he married Dawn Marston. In 1992 they retired to their home on Lake Pend Oreille.

He enjoyed model trains, boating and airplanes.

He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Sandra Streifel of Spokane, Jody Rasmussen of Phoenix and Jill Marzorati of Rockford; and two sons, Michael Rasmussen of Chandler, Ariz., and Scott Rasmussen of Spokane.

Mary ‘Sue’ Shimizu

Spokane

Funeral for Mary S. “Sue” Shimizu, 91, will be Friday at the Spokane Buddhist Temple, 927 S. Perry St. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Shimizu, who was born in Spokane, died Monday. She was a lifelong resident of Spokane.

She graduated in 1930 from West Valley High School and married Dick Shimizu in the early 1930s.

Mrs. Shimizu worked for 10 years at Safeway Warehouse Produce and retired in 1977.

She was a member of the Spokane Buddhist Church, Japanese American Citizens League, Nikkei Club and the Teamsters Union and was active with Sekilon Judo.

Her husband died in 1996.

Survivors include a daughter, Amy Bragdon of Newman Lake; a son, Aisei Shimizu, and a sister, Yoshi Yamamoto, both of Spokane; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Lewis Gallaway

Moses Lake

No service will be held for Lewis Gallaway, 85, at his request. Benson Family Funeral Services in Moses Lake handled the arrangements.

Mr. Gallaway, who was born in Wenatchee, died Aug. 25.

His family moved to Moses Lake in 1935, and he graduated from Neppel High School in 1936. He worked at his parents’ farm in Moses Lake until 1942, then served in the Army during World War II.

In 1949 he married Dorthy Totusek, and they played professional music together until last year.

Mr. Gallaway began working at the Moses Lake Liquor Store in 1959, retiring in 1979.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jon Gallaway of Moses Lake and Bill Gallaway of Spokane; a daughter, Lynnda Staat of Spokane; a brother, Newlan Gallaway of Grandview, Wash.; a sister, June Whipple of Spanaway, Wash.; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Emil Svendsbye

Bonners Ferry, Idaho

Graveside service for Emil D. Svendsbye, 81, will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Grandview Cemetery in Bonners Ferry. Bonners Ferry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Svendsbye, who was born in Hamlet, N.D., died Aug. 26.

In 1936 he moved with his family to Idaho.

Mr. Svendsbye was employed at several farms before serving in the Army. After his military discharge, he went into logging and mining before working in road construction as a heavy-equipment operator in Montana, Colorado and New Mexico.

He retired and moved to Bonners Ferry, and lived with his sister, Bertha Washburn, until her death.

Survivors include three sisters, Josephine Poindexter of Bonners Ferry, Lina Hazle of Toledo, Ohio, and Gina Ballinger of Orange Park, Fla..

Molly Stotler

Spokane

Graveside inurnment service for Molly Stotler, 48, will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery in Walla Walla. Hennessey Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Stotler, who was born in Walla Walla, died Friday. She was a resident of Spokane for 30 years.

She graduated in 1974 from Carlsbad High School in California, and then returned to Spokane where she attended Eastern Washington University.

She worked in steel and metal fabrication.

Survivors include her mother, Bonny Struthers of Walla Walla; and a sister, Anne Stotler Threlfall of Spokane.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Spokane Humane Society, SpokAnimal CARE or Cat Tales Zoological Park.

Alma Mildes

Spokane

Visitation for Alma H. Mildes, 88, will be today from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Riplinger Funeral Home. Graveside service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Mildes was born in Spokane and spent her life in the Mount Kit Carson-Peone Prairie area.

She was a homemaker and a longtime member of Hillyard Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Mildes.

Survivors include a son, Gary Mildes of Mead; a daughter, Janice Mastel of Spokane; and three grandchildren.
