Astros 9, Reds 7: At Houston, Roy Oswalt became the National League’s first 17-game winner and Houston extended its winning streak to 11 games with a victory over Cincinnati.

Marlins 7, Mets 3: At Miami, A.J. Burnett (6-6) allowed two hits in 6 1/3 innings, Miguel Cabrera hit a tape-measure homer and Florida extended its longest winning streak since 1997 to eight games by beating New York.

Pirates 2, Brewers 0: At Pittsburgh, Dave Williams pitched 6 1/3 shutout innings for his first victory in nearly three full seasons as Pittsburgh shutout Milwaukee.

Rockies 8, Giants 7: At Denver, Jeromy Burnitz hit a tiebreaking two-run homer in the eighth inning to lift Colorado to a victory over San Francisco.

Dodgers 8, Diamondbacks 2: At Los Angeles, pinch-hitter Robin Ventura hit his 18th career grand slam to tie Willie McCovey for third place on the career list, Hideo Nomo won for the first time in 11 decisions and Los Angeles beat Arizona.

Expos 7, Cubs 6 (12): At Chicago, Brian Schneider hit a go-ahead single in the 12th inning and Montreal beat Chicago. Chad Cordero (5-3) got the victory with two innings of scoreless relief on a windy night at Wrigley Field.

Cardinals 4, Padres 2: At San Diego, pinch-hitter Roger Cedeno’s go-ahead, two-run double in the sixth inning helped St. Louis beat San Diego.

Phillies at Braves (ppd.): At Atlanta, tropical storm Frances forced the first rainout this year in Atlanta and only the fourth in the eight-year history of Turner Field. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader today at Turner Field.
