Yankees 11, Devil Rays 2: At New York, Alex Rodriguez and Hideki Matsui each hit two-run doubles, and Jon Lieber struck out a season-high nine to lead New York past slumping Tampa Bay. Gary Sheffield had four hits and Bernie Williams homered for the Yankees.

Twins 3, Orioles 1: At Baltimore, Mike Cuddyer snapped a tie with a two-run homer in the ninth inning as Minnesota rallied to beat Baltimore. J.C. Romero (7-1) pitched a scoreless eighth for the Twins, extending his club-record run of shutout innings to 34.

Royals 6, Tigers 2: At Detroit, former Spokane Indian Dee Brown homered twice and drove in four runs to lead Kansas City over Detroit. Jimmy Serrano (1-1) picked up his first major league victory with three scoreless innings of relief.

Rangers 10, White Sox 3: At Arlington, Texas, Kenny Rogers allowed three runs over seven innings, David Dellucci keyed a seven-run second with a three-run double and Texas snapped Chicago’s four-game winning streak

Red Sox 7, Athletics 1: At Oakland, Calif., Johnny Damon hit a leadoff homer in his return to the Red Sox lineup after missing four games with a jammed right pinkie to start Boston’s win over Oakland. Kevin Millar homered and finished 3 for 3 with a double.

Angels 5, Blue Jays 2: At Anaheim, Calif., Bartolo Colon pitched seven strong innings, Chone Figgins and Garret Anderson homered and Anaheim beat Toronto. Colon limited Toronto to six hits, striking out seven.
