Edwin Steven

Spokane

Memorial service for Edwin “Ed” Stevens, 85, will be held at a later date. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Stevens, who was born in Amidon, N.D., last died Monday.

At the age of 15, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in Montana and worked at Glacier National Park, later transferring to the CCC Camp in Seven Mile.

In 1942, he joined the Marine Corps and fought in the Pacific Theatre, including Luzon, Philippines. Upon his discharge in 1945, he opened his own business as a general contractor.

Mr. Stevens was a top-rated horse trainer, well known throughout the Northwest. He was a member of several cutting horse associations from local to national levels. He also was a mentor to many horse enthusiasts.

In January l940, he married Marvella Culver. She died in 1999.

Survivors include his companion, Lois McHenry of Millwood; four sons, Steve, Lonnie and Edwin Stevens Jr., all of Spokane, and Kenneth Stevens of Chicago; a daughter, Susan Kimbie of Florida; 13 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Juanita (Zumwalt) Wagner

Athol, Idaho

A wake for Juanita Pearl (Zumwalt) Wagner, 41, was Oct. 18.

Mrs. Wagner, who was born in Vancouver, Wash., died Oct. 11.

Survivors include her husband, Ron; two children, Mike Armijo of San Francisco and Sarah Zumwalt of Athol; her mother and stepfather, Evelyn and Robert Brummett of Rathdrum, Idaho; her father, Wesley B. Zumwalt; a brother, Wesley W. Zumwalt, ; and two sisters, Tina Kunst and Teresa Henrichsen, all of Coeur d’Alene.

Erin (Cunningham) Williams

Spokane

Private service will be held for Erin Colleen (Cunningham) Williams, 51. Neptune Society is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Williams, who was born in Fontana, Calif., died Oct. 9. She was a resident of the Spokane area for 48 years.

She graduated from Ferris High School in 1971, and worked as a laundry attendant for five years. She also had worked as a bartender, food handler and cook.

Ms. Williams enjoyed cooking and painting sand dollars.

Survivors include her companion, Bill Voiland; a son, Jarrod Williams; a sister, Nannette Crane; and a brother, Phil Cunningham, all of Spokane.

Gordon Brannon

Spokane

No service will be held for Gordon H. Brannon, 83, at his request. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Brannon, who was born in Moscow, Idaho, died Oct. 14. He lived in Omak, Wash., for 25 years, spent 30 years in Colville and has lived in Spokane since 1990.

He attended the University of Idaho, and served in the Navy during World War II.

Mr. Brannon owned Town and Country clothing store in Colville for 30 years.

He was an active member of the Fairwood Retirement Village community.

His wife of 56 years, Dorothy, died in 2001.

Survivors include three sons, Jeff and Mark Brannon, both of Spokane, and Steve Brannon of Olympia; a daughter, Jennifer Wymore of Spokane; a sister, Joanne King of Vancouver, Wash.; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Hadsell ‘Don’ Barnhouse

Spokane

No service will be held for Hadsell “Don” Barnhouse, 83, at his request. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Barnhouse, who died Tuesday, was born in Akron, Ohio.

He served in the Army Air Force in the Flying Tigers during World War II serving in China. He worked for American Sign and Indicator for 22 years, retiring in 1984 as a service manager.

He came to Spokane from Jacksonville, Fla., in 1981.

Survivors include a brother, Dallas Barnhouse; and two sisters, Jesse DeLuco of Rome, N.Y., and Betty Kyler of Mansfield, Ohio.

Louis Blefgen

Spokane

Funeral Mass for Louis R. Blefgen, 82, will be today at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, with burial service to take place at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Blefgen, who died Wednesday, was born in Spokane.

He grew up in Spokane, attended St. Anthony School and graduated from Gonzaga Prep.

He served in the Army during World War II, where he fought in the battle of Okinawa in the Pacific.

Mr. Blefgen worked for the U.S. Postal Service for more than 35 years before retiring.

Survivors include his brother, Edward Blefgen of Gresham, Ore.; and several nieces and nephews.

Margaret (Guenther) Brown

Spokane

Memorial service for Margaret Ethel (Guenther) Brown, 91, will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Hunters (Wash.) Presbyterian Church. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Brown, who was born in Hunters, died Thursday. She was a resident of the Spokane area since 1958.

She retired from the Central Valley School District, where she worked in food service.

After retirement, she enjoyed visiting residents at the Good Samaritan Village. She also enjoyed gardening and the outdoors.

She was preceded in death by husbands, Ernest Shull and Neal Brown.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Mattison of Edmonds, Wash.; three sons, Donald Brown of Medical Lake, Michael Shull of Otis Orchards and Patrick Shull of Spokane; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Catherine Andrews

Wellpinit, Wash.

Wake and rosary for Catherine E. Andrews, 91, will be today at 7 p.m. at the Longhouse in Wellpinit. Funeral will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Alex Sherwood Memorial Community Center in Wellpinit.

Mrs. Andrews, who was born in Ford, Wash., died Thursday. She lived on the Spokane Indian Reservation her entire life.

She was a homemaker, and loved to war dance and attend powwows.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Antione.

Survivors include four daughters, Lucy and Kathy Abrahamson, Vivian Flett and Alvina Andrews; two sons, LeRoy and Eugene Stearns; three sisters, Lillian Louie, Betty Timentwa and Mary Jane Thatcher; and 243 grandchildren, great-grandhcildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Muriel McWilliams

Spokane

Memorial service for Muriel Ann McWilliams, 78, will be today at 1 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home.

Mrs. McWilliams, a lifelong resident of Spokane and Twin Lakes, Idaho, died Tuesday.

She was a graduate of Lewis and Clark High School and worked for the Spokane Army Air Depot before becoming a homemaker.

She was an avid golfer.

Survivors include nine children, Laura Wallingford, Tami , Gail and Stu McWilliams, Lynn Snow, Mikie Duncan, Julie Hurst, Becky Squier and Jamie Hanna; a brother, Mike Davis; a sister, Jackie Mahar; 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
