Sherritt, Pullman run past Lakeside

They’re accustomed to having ranked football teams in Pullman these days.

This time, the ranked team is the Pullman Greyhounds, who currently are ranked No. 2 among the state’s Class 2A teams.

Friday night, the Greyhounds lived up to that ranking, rolling past visiting Lakeside 37-18 in a Great Northern League contest.

Running back J.C. Sherritt ran for two first-quarter touchdowns and Scott Hagihara ran for a touchdown and caught a 16-yard scoring pass from Jeff Jones to lead Pullman. Sherritt finished for 190 yards rushing on 20 carries.

In other GNL games, Chewelah concentrated all of its scoring in a three-minute span of the third quarter to take a 14-7 victory over visiting Medical Lake. Workhorse Austin Peaker carried 31 times for 196 yards for the Cougars and scored the team’s first touchdown on a 9-yard run. Senior tight end A.J. Proszek pulled in a 26-yard scoring pass for the winning score. Tim Morris carried 11 times for 115 yards and a touchdown for the Cardinals. … Riverside roared back from a 24-10 halftime deficit to score a 34-24 victory at Deer Park. Tyler Dornqast, who squeezed in from the 1 in the third quarter, completed 19 of 32 passes for 227 yards and a touchdown to lead the Rams. Buddy Wood caught eight passes for 127 yards and a touchdown.

Freeman racks up another shutout

Freeman, the state’s second-ranked Class 1A team, has allowed 12 points this season – the lowest total for any team in the state at any level of football. The flip side of that coin for the Scotties is senior running back Kevin Hatch, who accounted for 36 points in a 48-0 shutout win over Colfax – the team’s fifth shutout in six games. Hatch scored four touchdowns rushing, including a 32-yard scamper in the first quarter, and pulled in a 44-yard pass from sophomore quarterback Andrew Dresback. In his spare time, he was 6 for 6 kicking PATs. …Kicker Paul Ratcliff’s PAT on Tony Yeaw’s 8-yard touchdown run in the first quarter proved to be the deciding point in Newport’s 10-6 victory at Kettle Falls. Ratcliff added a 28-yard field goal in the third quarter.

Reardan wins 26th straight

Reardan’s 26th consecutive win was a nail-biter – holding off a last-minute upset bid by Republic, 21-16 at Reardan. Shawn Westerman pulled in a 12-yard touchdown pass and picked off two Republic passes. Jesse Eich scored on a 3-yard run with 2:56 left to play to pull the Tigers within a touchdown. But the following onside kick was recovered by Reardan and, by the time Republic got the ball back on downs, there was not enough time to mount a scoring threat. Reardan, ranked No. 5 in the latest state Class B-11 poll, plays No. 3 Lind-Ritzville in a first-place showdown on Friday. … The Broncos, meanwhile, posted a 39-0 whitewash at Wilbur-Creston. Nick Ashley ran for five of Lind-Ritzville’s six touchdowns, carrying 22 times for 165 yards. … Davenport rolled to a 42-7 lead at halftime and cruised to a 48-13 win over visiting Springdale. The Gorillas had six different players find the end zone. Running back Luke Rodenbough was the only repeat visitor, scoring on a pair of 27-yard dashes en route to 118 yards on eight carries. Kory Christman carried 14 times for 121 yards and a touchdown for Davenport. … Jeff Baird ran for 191 yards on 18 carries and scored four touchdowns to lead Liberty to a shutout win at home over Almira/Coulee-Hartline. Baird, who tied for high honors with 11 tackles, had touchdown runs of 57, 50, 16 and 3 yards for the Lancers. … Odessa rode running back David Johnson to a 40-22 win over host Selkirk at Ione. Johnson carried 36 times and gained 213 yards, scored two touchdowns on the ground and added a third on a 13-yard pass from Drake Costlow. Derek MacArthur carried 25 times for 132 yards for the Rangers.

Visiting Columbia routs Inchelium

Third-ranked Columbia needed just three quarters to hang a 48-0 loss on Inchelium on the Hornets’ home field. Miles St. John carried 12 times for 107 yards and two touchdowns and receiver Tyrel Sampson caught three passes, two for touchdowns, for 119 yards and added a 21-yard dash for a third TD. … Curlew jumped out to a 20-0 lead after one quarter on the road and went on to crush Mansfield, 50-14. … Tri-Cities Prep was an inhospitable host, handing visiting Cusick a 61-36 loss. … In a non-leaguer, No. 5-ranked Sprague-Harrington got five touchdowns from Josh Adams, who rushed for 149 yards, during a 60-14 win over visiting Wellpinit. The running back, with a state-record 88 career touchdowns to his credit, plunged in from the 1-yard line three times and added a 9-yard dash for a score. He also pulled in a 68-yard pass from quarterback Theo Warner for the game’s first score. Warner finished with 168 yards passing and two touchdowns.

Dayton holds off Waitsburg

Dayton held off a second-half comeback to win at Waitsburg, 20-16. … Top-ranked DeSales rolled to a 47-13 win at No. 8 Asotin. … Torey Bye threw three TD passes and ran for two others to lead Pomeroy to a 40-30 win over visiting Tekoa-Oakesdale/Rosalia.

Parrish leads Gar-Pal past Liberty Christian

Garrett Parrish needs to work a little on returning kicks. The rest of the Garfield-Palouse quarterback’s game is just fine, thank you very much. The quarterback threw a pair of touchdown passes, rushed 58-yards for a touchdown and pulled in a touchdown pass to lead the Vikings to a 72-22 non-league drubbing of visiting Liberty Christian. Parrish returned a punt and a kick-off to the Patriots’ 5-yard line. … Top-ranked LaCrosse-Washtucna rolled to its 29th straight victory, pounding home-standing Colton/Pullman Christian, 54-8. Kevin Dainty ran for two touchdowns for the Tigercats, and Alex Michel scored twice on interceptions – picking off one pass in the C/PC end zone. … Prescott rolled to a 39-8 win over visiting Touchet. … Jubilee-Academy posted a 40-28 win at St. John-Endicott.

Lewiston falls short against Lake City

Lake City held off a fourth-quarter comeback by Lewiston to earn a 34-28 Inland Empire League win at home. Joey Symbal, who finished with 110 yards on 18 carries for the Timberwolves, punched over from the 2 in the fourth quarter to preserve the win. Quarterback Tyler Squires threw for three touchdowns to lead the Bengals, completing 20 of 39 passes for 349 yards. … Post Falls remained unbeaten in league by blanking Lakeland at Rathdrum, 41-0. K.C. Billetz returned a Hawks fumble 30 yards for a touchdown and added a seven-yard dash for another. Nick Mehalechko added a TD reception and TD run.
