Team Impact brings power to Valleypoint

This week decks of cards will be ripped and steel bars will be bent all in the name of God.

Team Impact, a group of men who travel the country performing feats of strength while preaching the Gospel, will perform nightly at the Valleypoint at Pines Church. The men come from a variety of athletic backgrounds, including professional football, wrestling and weightlifting.

“Each one of them is a believer, active in their respective churches where they live,” said the Rev. Barry Foster.

The performances will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday through Dec. 5. “People are looking for wholesome family events that they can participate in,” Foster said. “Our intention is to attract people who don’t normally go to church.”

This is the second time Team Impact has visited Valleypoint. The Power Team, which also performs feats of strength, has also visited twice. “The response has always been favorable.”

Sometimes people who attend look for tricks or techniques that allow the men to do what they do. “It’s just brute strength,” he said. “It’s impressive.”

Foster said he keeps items from previous shows in his office, including a rolled up frying pan. “I’ve tried to unroll it a bit. It’s just not happening. I can bench press 350 pounds. I can’t budge it.”

The church is asking for a suggested donation of $3 at the door. “We’re not hard and fast on that at all,” he said. “It’s just going to be a very gently presented option for people.”

The church is at 714 S. Pines Road. Call 928-7880 for more information.

Advent worship services

The congregations of three Valley Lutheran churches plan to attend joint worship services each Thursday during Advent. The services start Thursday and will continue at 7 p.m. each week through Dec. 16 at Christ Lutheran Church, 13009 E. Broadway Ave.

Advent workshop

Everyone is invited to an Advent workshop Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Millwood Presbyterian Church, 3223 N. Marguerite Road. The afternoon will include crafts, songs and a reading of the Christmas story.

There is no charge to attend but each family is asked to bring a plate of goodies to share.

School auction

St. John Vianney Catholic School plans to host its annual dinner and auction next Saturday at the Greyhound Park in Post Falls. The evening is a fund-raiser for the school.

The night begins at 4 p.m. with a silent auction, followed by dinner and a live auction. Items up for bid this year include vacation home rentals, sports memorabilia and travel packages. The cost is $25 per person or $150 for a table of eight. The meal will be catered by Longhorn Barbecue. Call 926-7987 for reservations.
