“A Shayna Maidel” This powerful, haunting portrait of a family divided by the Holocaust, directed by Tracey Benson, opens today at the Lake City Playhouse, 1320 E. Garden, at 7 p.m. Additional performances Friday, Saturday and Sunday, then Nov. 18-20. Friday and Saturday performances are at 8 p.m., and the Sunday shows are at 2 p.m.; $7 all shows. Christian Women’s Club Luncheon 12:30-2 p.m. at the Coeur d’Alene Resort. The theme is Holiday Culinary Delights, and the club’s cookbook will be available for $10 at the luncheon. Lunch is $9. University of Idaho Hunger Banquet 6 p.m. in the Commons Clearwater/Whitewater Room. For $3 participants will “draw their fate” at the door, and be placed in a specific economic class, and served a meal representative of the country. Few will leave with a full stomach, but will have a better understanding of global hunger and poverty. Information: 882-3219.

Annual Fall Festival - sponsored by Harding Family Center and the agencies it houses to be held today from 4 to 7 p.m. at the center at 411 N. 15th St. The free event will include a Camp Fire ceremony and presentation, veterans acknowledgement, door prizes, refreshments, and numerous activities targeted for children and families. “Yesterday’s Tommorrows: Past Visions of the American Future” – The Smithsonian exhibit opens Saturday at the Lewis-Clark State College Center for Arts and History in Lewiston, with an opening reception from 5-8 p.m. at the main gallery, 415 Main St. The exhibit will remain there until the end of December. In conjunction with the exhibit, the LCSC Center for Arts and History will show two films, Stanley Kubrick’s classic film “Dr. Strangelove,” at 10 a.m. at the Liberty Theater, 611 Main, and on Saturday Nov. 20, “2010: The Year We Make Contact,” also at 10 a.m. Tickets for the films are retro-priced at $3 general admission, 50 cents for children 12 and under, and LSCC students are admitted free with student ID.
