Dolphins tight end McMichael arrested for aggravated battery

Miami Dolphins tight end Randy McMichael was arrested Tuesday for allegedly hitting his pregnant wife. McMichael was charged with aggravated battery on a pregnant woman in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., a second-degree felony that is punishable by up to 15 years in prison, Broward County sheriff’s officials said. His wife, Cawanna McMichael, also was arrested on a domestic battery charge stemming from the early morning fight at their home. Officials said Cawanna is six months pregnant. Randy McMichael was expected to be released Tuesday evening on $5,000 bond; his wife was to be freed on a $1,000 bond, officials said. Both appeared in court wearing jail-issued uniforms, and both wept during the brief proceeding. “The National Football League and Canadian Football League extended their working agreement through the 2006 season. The two leagues agreed in 1997 to their first deal, one that saw the NFL give the CFL a $3 million loan for the right to sign CFL option-year players. The original agreement expired in December, but the two sides decided to extend it until April while they worked on a long-term venture. “The Green Bay Packers signed wide receiver Robert Ferguson to a five-year contract extension. “The Pittsburgh Steelers signed free-agent cornerback Shane Walton.

Young might have to forfeit gold

U.S. sprinter Jerome Young should be stripped of his Sydney Olympics relay gold medal for flunking a steroid test in 1999, the world’s top sports court ruled in a case that pitted U.S. track officials against their international counterparts.

World sports officials must decide whether Young’s relay teammates — including Michael Johnson — also should forfeit their medals.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport, which found Young guilty of doping, was not asked to rule on his relay teammates. But the panel said it “does not necessarily accept that, in the unusual circumstances of the present case, this consequence must follow.”
